Ways to take care for voice?

I have a singing tutor and many people have told me of different ways you can care for your voice or ways to more effectively warm up. My question is what are some of the more obscure ways of making sure that you can perform your best on stage, and what actually works? Iv been hearing stuff like chewing vitamin C tablets and drinking olive oil. Also what are the best ways to warm up or take care of your voice?

Ways to take care for voice?
avoid cold water, don't scream or anything (obviously :-D) drinking tea with honey, sucking on cough drops, also you can put a coupla cough drops in your tea; most obscure thing i know is cayenne pepper and honey. (I KNOW It's weird, isnt it?) mainly just rest it, though.
Reply:Rest your voice and let nature do her thing. People have told me of honey and to avoid cold water.
Reply:Drink a cup of tea right before you perform...it warms your throat which softens it, then while your breathing...it will slightly cool it down...giving your throat time to cool, it will last you longer and help your voice.
