The qualification i gave an employer is incorrect. What should I do?

I just got accepted for a full-time job from an employer that I have been working temporarily with. The employer wants proof of two of my qualifications.

The employer has already received my degree certificate but I had to request a statement for the other qualification as I have never received a certificate for it. When I received the statement the result was unexpectedly much lower than the grade I gave my employer (E! not C).

I am scared of looking like a fraud to my employer and all of my colleagues.

I have always used this result as it was given to me by a past tutor for applying to university.

What can/ should I do?

Please help me :(

If the degree in question is absolutely relevant to your new position, spill it. You've been working there already, they know what your capable of and your skill levels. Actually working with you is 100 times more substantial a reference than a grade from the past, and honesty with your emplorer is 1000 times more valuable than a slightly more impressive piece of paper.

If the degree is irrelivant to your new job (a journalism degree in a network administrator position or something), then you can leave it alone, your compitance in that field is of less concern than the fact that you could complete the program and get the degree.
Reply:Tell the truth, sooner rather than later. You've proved you have a higher level qualification (a degree) and explaining now why you misquoted a grade is a lot easier than being on the back foot if the employer checks up....
Reply:It's funny I've never had to provide such to any employer and I'm a Technology Solutions Manager, but a certified Senior Systems Engineer.

I wouldn't say anything.
Reply:Well you must be able to do the job and do it well saying though you have had the job offer, the rest is just going through the formalitys. Has he given you a date to have the information in by? i think that telling the truth as you seem an intelligent and decent guy so do not start bending the truth now and this will get you further in life if you are all above board ok
Reply:Keep mum, unless challenged, and then say the grade you gave was a projection he accepted in advance, rather than an actual result.
Reply:I think the best solution is to come clean ASAP.

I had the same problem; there was a substantial time gap (12 years) between my A Levels and my degree. I explained the difference in grades as simple error brought about because so much time had elapsed, and all was well.

But honesty really is the best policy here, otherwise your employer may think you have more skeletons in the closet (so to speak).

All the best!
Reply:ooo - what a position to be in. I think you would have to be honest and explain to your employer - i am sure you were not taken on only on the basis of this qualification. Is E still a pass and how long ago was the qualification.

If you are not honext then job does not have to be offered so be upfront and they may admire you for that.
Reply:I think the only thing you can do now is come clean, and explain the situation. You can't add anymore lies on top or it'll only make it worse.
Reply:you have a degree at the end of the day..so you got a sodding E on a Alevel or GCSE (you didnt specify)...you got into uni and thats all that should matter!
