Does Sylvan Tutoring really work?

next year i'm going to back to the school i came from and the school i'm going back to is a really hard school! I kept getting C's %26amp; D's!!! will Sylvan help me?

-if you've ever been there did it work for u?

I PUT IT IN THE WRONG SECTION BECAUSE MORE PEOPLE WILL ANSWER!!!

NO RUDE COMMENTS!

Does Sylvan Tutoring really work?
Ive been going to sylvan for 4yrs now. it does help and you dont have to stay for that long. i just have troubles and my parents want me to stay there until my junior yr in high school. its kinda pricey but its worth it. i used to get D's and C's in math and now i make B's. its not really one- on -one tutoring if thats what your looking for. its 3 people per table and they give you problems to solve. if you get the problem(s) wrong they explain it to you and they help you with some examples. i say try it,give it a shot =)
Reply:nope, first of all its expensive, secondly ask your teachers fro extra help, or stay in for extra help. your teachers can help you WAY more then some random tutor.
Reply:If you wanted more answers, then put it in a section with people, like P%26amp;S. your going to get rude comments.

Anyways, I have never done Sylvan, but I have had a couple friends who have. It worked for both of them, so that's all I got.
Reply:yeah, i went there, and it didn't help me at all. it just focused on the totally wrong material, and the rate at which i was learning, i was 3 months behind at sylvan than at school. i know this isn't what you want to hear, but i would suggest talking to the teachers personally and see if there is anything they can do with you after school, because that is what i did, and they knew how to help me, and it worked really well.
Reply:NO it wont straight up Ive tried it before... KUMON is a better training center and it actually trains you through repition...

www.Kumon.com for more info...
Reply:nope!go to C2 Educate i go there and it is great sylvan is dumb!
Reply:Well, my sister had a different tutoring that was on TV and that really helped her. I don't think it will be bad if you take a shot at it, my friend did it and she said it really worked

I have another math tutoring question someone can hopefully help me with?

a, b, c, and d are all non-negative integers. How many total possibilities exist if a+b+c+d=10? I could do it systematically, but that seems like way more work than necessary. Also, I can obviously find the total number of possibilities, but then how would I (easily) eliminate the possibilities which wouldn't add up to 10?

I have another math tutoring question someone can hopefully help me with?
I think this is known as the "number partitioning problem" and I think there is no simple solution to this famous problem. I think you just have to count the ways: Do it systematically:

Here's a better way to count:

Highest Number .... #s used ..... Number of ways

7 .......................... 7 1 1 1 ...............4

6 ...................... 6 2 2 1 ...............4!/2 = 12

5 .................... 5 3 1 1 .............4!/2=12

...................... 5 2 2 1 .......... 4!/2 = 12

4 ................ 4 4 1 1 ........... 4!/(2x2) =6

................ 4 3 2 1 ............ 4! = 24

3 .................. 3 3 3 1 .......... 4

................. 3 3 2 2 ........... 4!/(2x2)=6

Now add up the ways %26amp; that should be the answer

I get 80. Check all my work to see if that's right.
Reply:Brute force:

7 1 1 1 (x 4)

6 2 1 1 (x 12) 16

5 3 1 1 (x 12) 28

5 2 2 1 (x 12) 40

4 4 1 1 (x 6) 46

4 3 2 1 (x 24) 70

4 2 2 2 (x 6) 76

3 3 3 1 (x 4) 80 total possibilities

if a ≠ ≠b ≠ c ≠ d, there are only 24 possibilities.
Reply:You could try solving simpler problems and looking for a pattern. For example if the sum were 0, there's only 1 way.

Sum 1, 4 ways

Sum 2, 10 ways

Sum 3, 20 ways

Sum 4, 35 ways

Sum 5, 56 ways

This is a cubic pattern since the third differences are equal. My TI-84 says it's n^3/6 + n^2 + 11n/6 + 1 where n is the sum.

So 10^3/6 + 10^2 + 11(10)/6 + 1 =

286 ways.
Reply:just do it out in your head its not that hard. Key word: integers.
Reply:Eliminate any possibilities using 9, 8, 7, 6, or 5 because if they were added to integers that were each unique numbers you'd get a number that's larger than ten.

that leaves 4, 3, 2, 1 which equal ten.

ah, having read your additional detail, I defer to the comments below. Sorry to have added a constraint that wasn't actually in place. Good luck!

Do I have any chance of getting into stanford?

I think I ruined my high school career. A 3.17 on the first semester of freshmen year. Usually, i'm a straight a student, but I started slipping alot this year. My first C ever on a report card. In order to get a good enough gpa would i have to take 4+ AP classes if i'm aiming for stanford?

(Future Years)

Freshmen

-not allowed to take APs

my final GPA for both semesters would be a 3.58

Sophomore

-AP Biology

-AP Computer Science

Junior

-AP U.S. History

-AP Literature

-AP Physics

-AP Calculus

Senior

-i've heard they don't even look at senior year

-AP Statistics

-AP Government/Economics

-AP Chemistry

-AP Literature

-AP Spanish

I'm in Track and Cross Country. My clubs are FBLA, leo, and key club.

I also volunteer at the library, hospital, %26amp; community center. I'm planning on getting a tutoring job too.

Do I have any chance of getting into stanford?
Talk to any stanford rep and they will tell you that the number one thing they look for on an application is passion. You don't need to join 4 million clubs, do what you love and do it well.

Also your going to need a solid schedule (which you plan on taking)...a higher GPA (3.8 at the minimum), a high SAT/ACT score.

Keep up whatever your doing. I would suggest starting a tutoring club that tutors in subjects that you enjoy.

Best of luck!
Reply:Thirty years ago a few of my high school friends went to Stanford. Others went to other private schools, most went to state universities and colleges. I can't see any evidence that going to Stanford was in any way better for those who did that. Instead, I think the people who had the best college experience were those who went to smaller colleges. They learned more, had a more personal relationship with their professors, and had more close friends. So think about finding a small college, public or private, that seems the closest fit with your personality type. You have a zero percent chance of getting into Stanford and it is just not worth spending even one second worrying about it.

**HELP**What happens if I withdraw a class after being accepted as a transfer student at a 4 year university?

I attend a community college and I'm taking 5 classes right now. I was accepted in a 4 years university for Fall.... they said in the admission letter that I need to pass all my classes with a "satisfactory grade" which I assume is like a C???? well, anyways... I am passing all my classes and getting As in all of them EXCEPT chemistry which sucks... the teacher is a **beep** and I don't want to mess up my GPA, I've never dropped off a class before and I always hated that dropping off thing until now. What should I do? what if then I don't pass chem. and the university denies me admission even tho' I passed all my other classes with As?

Would a withdraw mess up things? what if I change it to an audit?

This is a very small college and they don't even have chemistry tutoring here =(

**HELP**What happens if I withdraw a class after being accepted as a transfer student at a 4 year university?
I would definitely go to a school counselor.

He/she can tell you exactly what will happen

if you withdraw from that class. You should

definitely look into whether that Chemistry

class is necessary for your transfer to the

university.
Reply:I think the best advice I can give you is to contact the admission department at the university. Just ask what will happen if a class is dropped. Don't give them extra information unless they ask for it. They should give an answer and info on what you should do.
Reply:If chemistry is not part of your major, maybe you can take the class pass/fail. I believe a pass is still considered a satisfactory grade. You should talk to an advisor at both colleges and see what they can do to help you.
Reply:Speak to an Academic Advisor at your college! Advisors are there to answer those questions. All colleges have an Academic Advisor. You can also ask the register office.
Reply:If you are attending a community college and drop it, most likely it won't affect any letter grade. In Texas, when transferring from a CC to a university, the only grades and classes that transfer over are the ones that are completed. Dropping a class will give you a W(withdrawal) status in most situations. If I remember correctly, the university will get your transcript and they will mark that the classes you have taken and completed only and completely disregard withdrawals. The great thing about CC's are the fact that you can drop the class extremely late in the semester and not have it affect your overall GPA. If you do fail a class though, then the F will pass through and the university will not consider that class as passed. If you need more information, you should speak with the counselors from the school you are transferring to in order to get the correct information. The counselors at your CC may have a good idea, but it's not completely valid since it's the university's decisions that matter.
Reply:C is a border failing grade my dear.. You should aim for A's and B's.

{{{Princess}}}
Reply:You need to ask the college you're transferring to.

Or fix your internet so I can tutor you. :P

EDIT:

Okay, You're right, a C is a satisfactory grade. But if it's still early enough in the semester, you can drop with a W. (That is NOT a failing grade) If it's too late for a W, ask your teacher if you can get a WP(which is a withdrawal passing) if ya'll don't do that, then stay and tough it out for a C. IT won't hurt your GPA much.

Also, ask your college now about their policiews of D's transferring. if they are like my school, they give you the option not to transfer the credits in order to drop the grade from your GPA all together. So that could be an option. Just ask your school. (Is it U of U?) Good luck!

What to do about calc 1 class?

im a sophmore and in majoring in civil engineering. i am just now in calc 1 and failing. we, im not the only one, everyone else in the class is. the teacher does an example on the board, and none of us can understand a word he says. then because we dont know enough about the problem to ask questions, he assumes he can give harder ones on the test. we take our tests to the tutors and they dont knwo how to do it.

i am attempting to do the HW for fridays test but i understand it even less the usual. i am not used to not being able to understand math. i was a natural at it. now i try at a problem for over an hour and still dont get it. i know not to try others b/c they get harder.

now i think of myself as a failure and a quitter because i stopped trying to get the problem. ive twisted myself up inside so all i feel is shame for myself. i have to pass this class. plz dont say switch majors. im mostly venting but ay replies would be welcome.

What to do about calc 1 class?
you really should go talk to this professor

i suggest going with a small group of people in the class who are having the same problem as you, and explaining to him that you guys really dont understand the material and that he should explain why stuff works in more depth

he might seem distant or unapproachable but im sure that he will listen and try to improve his class based on your suggestions because thats why he is a teacher (hes there to teach not to fail you)

DONT switch your major!

if youve found something you like you should pursue it no matter how many obstacles are thrown in your way

good luck!

p.s. also if theres a specific problem that you cant work out, i could try to help...although im not making any promises
Reply:Is it too late to drop? I would drop it this semester and take it during a summer session either with your school or with a community college or somewhere else that your college will allow you to transfer the credit in with.

It sounds like a big part of the problem is the professor, so hopefully a new teacher will help.

Also, I was a great math student myself and loved math up until Calculus. I did great in PreCalculus and for the life of me couldn't get better than a C in Calculus. So maybe it's just something about the topic itself that gives some of us who have naturally done well in math a bit of difficulty in this particular area.
Reply:Don't quit. I have a foreign teacher with a horribly hard to understand accent. I get a seriously bad headache everyday in that class. The class is seriously averaging around 50% on tests. I'm passing, barely. Fortunately this won't transfer on my transcripts when I transfer to my target 4 year college. I have a 4.0 outside this one class with this terrible teacher. I need to take Calc I next semester which is the math that will transfer. Keep on going. Seriously, don't quit because it kind of makes me want to quit, and I need this!!!
Reply:I know what you mean being that I am in the exact situation. (Calc 3 though) I've never been great at math but i use to do MUCH better back in the days now I read and the more I do the less I understand. I usually go to other calculus teachers and beg them to help me solve and understand a problem.

If your teacher is the problem then I would just gather will all your classmates and demand him to teach better, otherwise, it would be impossible to pass. You can also try to switch to another calculus class w/ another professor. But DO NOT change your major.

Anyone doing the City & Guilds e-Quals course? I think it is a poorly thought out course?

Speaking to the tutors at my local college I get the impression that they too are not entirely happy with this course. C%26amp;G refuse to tell them what is in the assesments and yet expect the college to provide the correct study guides. I took my ITP assesement and found some questions had not been covered in the course work.

I am now attempting to do Level 3 Word but the Microsoft study guide is painfully lacking any kind of guidence and I have reached the point where I think I may as well jack it in and do a payed course. I guess its true what people say, you get what you pay for.

Anyone doing the City %26amp; Guilds e-Quals course? I think it is a poorly thought out course?
I sincerely hope that you fill in the feedback forms.

The only way that colleges and universities can give their students good service is by students being honest about the feedback about how the course did or did not meet their requirements.

Feedback can be given anonymously and students should not feel embarrassed about being truthful.

The Ofsted send inspectors to all colleges, universities and schools to make sure they are giving students the service they are paying for. If you prefer address your concerns to them directly.
Reply:I'm sorry to hear you haven't found your course preparing you for a City %26amp; Guilds IT qualification useful. We base the qualification on the skills and knowledge that employers tell us is most important to them. Because the assessment is hands-on practical assignments, employers know that people with a City %26amp; Guilds certificate can actually do the things that are important, not just answer questions about them.

We are very open about what the syllabus is and what you will be assessed on - go to www.cityandguilds.com/itquals to get all the info you need. If you feel your college has not prepared you properly for the assessment, you should first follow their complaints procedure - let them know you're not happy. If you have done that, and not had a satisfactory response, contact City %26amp; Guilds about it. If there are any aspects of the syllabus or the assessments that you felt were not good, please let us know so that we can work on improving them. City %26amp; Guilds doesn't get funding from the government, but your college may have got a government subsidy to run the course.
Reply:I did a city and guilds course a few years back and it was a total waste of time. I later did an Access course which got me a place at university, where i am now.

I am not sure what you want to do but it's a path worth looking into.

Which one do you prefer to be a boyfriend? (Pls read my story...) A doctor or a lawyer?

I don't mean to ask this just to weigh them both. Honestly, both of them are nice people. The only thing that makes me feel awkward towards them is when they talk about their "profession". I always thank them for always looking for my welfare. The doctor guy always tells me to eat healthy foods (stuffs like that). And, the lawyer guy always talks logically (i mean, it's like everything has logical explanations). Sometimes, it left me a good laugh just talking to them. Haha! It's like I've got 2 instant life tutors! haha! But seriously, if you're in my shoes, who will it be? (i'm in dilemma, not because i can't choose, but because they're both nice and all-- practically almost perfect-- but when it comes to profession thing, i don't know.) They're really like 2 different people: The Doctor, can be very emotional, he cries if he's hurt (w/c for me nothing's wrong with it) while the lawyer, even if he's hurt, he wont let it show. He's always strong about his emotions.

Which one do you prefer to be a boyfriend? (Pls read my story...) A doctor or a lawyer?
I'd go for the doctor. If we are to live here in the States, I certainly don't want to be married to a lawyer. They sure have a less than sterling reputation here.
Reply:I recommend neither for you because you don't love either them. If you did love one, then you wouldn't be asking this question. You don't love both because a Filipina's heart is only for one at a time. Wait to you meet someone that makes your heart sing. You'll be doing the doctor and lawyer a favor anyways if you don't love them.
Reply:go for the doctor. if you choose the lawyer, i am pretty certain you will fight for the speakership of the house once you are a couple.
Reply:WOW, you must be sumkinda girl having two great guys swoon after you...hehehe... upon reading your story, i guess i'd choose the lawyer. as women we need someone who is strong and can stand for us or your family in the future. regarding his attitude about keeping it to himself even if he's hurt, you can still change that, be honest with him and tell him that you'd rather have him tell you what he wants and he doesn't want in a relationship and you also do the same- this worked for me ang my husband we've been together for 10 years now.I find the doctor's personality a bit boring.. although he has some good sides as well. The lawyer guy seems exciting. you know us girls, we are always after surprises a little naughtiness will spice up the relationship. But try to envision yourself married to each of them, who do you think would be a perfect partner for yourself. Goodluck! Haba ng hair mo gurl!
Reply:none of them. try to make friends any others, then see what happen. compared thing sometimes give worst answer.
Reply:both are of noble profession, but one or both could have only shown their best foot forward. Have you tried checking it out with compatibility thru astrological signs. The wealthy chinese always use this. Knowing this art and science could even surprise you bc you may discover traits you yourself don't know about yourself.
Reply:if i were you, i'd choose a lawyer...

lawyers are good conversationalists, sentimental and very loving. They are also thoughtful but they tend to be very jealous at times. they are also possessive but whatever, lawyers are good... they won't leave you...

doctors tend to prioritize work first than you while with a lawyer, you always comes first.

whatever i say, just follow your heart...

God bless!
Reply:doctor!
Reply:have you ever win an argument with a lawyer? you would want someone who's sensitive to your feelings and other people's feelings. hmmmpp. lawyers can be wrapped up with their own world that they're always right. hmmmpp. haven't you felt like your dumb sitting and talking to a lawyer while he corrects whatever you say? hmmmpp. they're self righteous. doctors sees beyond and feel what other people can't. hmmmppp. now, you pick. hhmmmppp.
Reply:i would say the doctor...

though they're both useful in different ways, i like the doctor since he's conscious about the health %26amp; lawyers are more on the devil's advocate...they know how to lie...my father is lawyer %26amp; im not saying that he's a liar but he's good at it (the reasoning out), but he's too serious...
Reply:lawyers make the philippines sick

illness doctors can never heal.....
Reply:The doctor, lawyers talk too much.
Reply:Go for a doctor, if you feel him, as he can give life to you... while a lawyer can take your breath from you. Hahaha!
Reply:a doctor..
Reply:well if i was a girl , I'd go for the more good looking one and thats more richer
Reply:lawyer=he can give whatever reason just to make sure that u trust him... sometimes, not that honest..

doctor=very honest man but too busy.

so, its up to you to choose...
Reply:Asked the lawyer about the logical explanation of 2-(-2)=4,

(-2)-2=-4. If he cannot explains it then his full of shi*t and choose the doctor. A doctor saves lives and a lawyer hang people upside down and drained them until they die.
Reply:the doctor is best for you...
Reply:lawyers are pimps... go for the doctor even though he's a cry baby
Reply:Let's see... choose the one you love. You love them both equally? Huh? Is that possible? Well, don't be in a hurry, take your time knowing them better. Who knows, one of them might just decide to find someone else, then your problem is solved.
Reply:Doctors have the reputation of always speaking the truth.

while lawyer are.........

most lawyers are boring person,

and doctors get paid even their patients die. heheheh

go for the doctor
Reply:which one can truely make you happy? thats the one you want to be with
Reply:You should go for the one you can see yourself with in the future. I would say go for the doctor. You said the lawyer does not like to show his emotions which is something that messes up a lot of relationships. At least if something goes wrong with the doctor you will know. Also, I personally prefer guys who aren't afraid to show their emotions.

And like others said.. lawyers have to be good at lying and stuff.. so definately go for the doctor.
Reply:Definitely the doctor, just because he is sensitive to your needs (reminding you to stay healthy, cries with you when you're hurt) and probably will be a bit more of a good provider than the lawyer. Just my two cents. :)
Reply:it's not the question of whose the talker or not or whose more sensitive or not...it's the question of who does your heart choose...obviously none of the two right now...best would be not just to focus to them...maybe you're looking for something you've not found in them...you're just amazed of their profession..remember it's that the comfortability but its the compatibility and happiness that you need for long lasting relationship...in the end only you knows the answer to that..
Reply:for me the lawyer
Reply:go for the doctor!! lawyers are great but i go for the doctor..
Reply:if i were you ..i'd choose the lawyer..i like his strong personality..compared to the doctor..honestly..i dont like the man whom easily shows his emotion in front of others..its like ..ahh..its hard to xplain ..

moreover ,.i think the strong personality that the lawyer's hav shown that he is quite a responsible gentleman..thats all for today..thanks for asking ..you can keep the change .,.i mean the 2 points ..you can keep it..i'm serious

iguess you still have to make the final choice yourself.

I've been trying to help out my 16 year niece. She's homeless.?

I took in my 16 year old niece to live with me. Her mom, my sister, put a restraining order against her that doesn't expire until she's 18 as a result of a fight they got in. Since I didn't want her to become a ward of the state of NY I told her she could live with me when I moved to GA. I signed up for food stamps b/c I brought home very little money. In the end, I had to move back to NY to get work and leave her w/my sister in GA until I could enroll her in Job Corps. I crashed my car, so I got rides to work. I then found out that my niece had been skipping school and was flunking. She was also skipping her tutoring sessions. My electricity got cut off and the same day I was fired from my job. Now that I'm in NY I have a job but am staying w/friends. Should I get a weekly room to rent for the both of us to live in while I enroll her in Job Corp and bring her up here? My sister wants her out of her house in GA. Her mother still won't take her in. Get a room? Let her go?

I've been trying to help out my 16 year niece. She's homeless.?
This sounds fishy.. Can a parent really get a restraining order against a minor child? Did you know that if she was a ward of the state you could apply for temporary guardianship and the state would give you money to cover costs? I can appreciate that you want to help, but you're barely able to look after yourself. Tell your sister (the girl's mother) to suck it up and start acting like a proper parent. She brought this girl into the world, she has a responsibility to work throught the issues with her daughter. (Like the rest of us did.)
Reply:TeTe you have done your best, your life situation isn't the same as when you started and she hasn't lightened any of your load. Sometimes, many times, hell often, we do have to say enough is enough. But then I can't tell you when you have had enough, only you can do that. I say Job Corp, all the way. She has to learn that every time she shows her little azz, there isn't always going to be someone there to cover it. You can let her go and you can let her go, but Job Corp would teach her something and hopefully give her that other chance. She is 16, the City and surrounding areas can be harsh, but then I am sure you have gone through all of that. Put her in prayer and send it to God, I had to do it with my daughter, you do have to let go. You took her when her Mom didn't want her and she shows no gratitude, not that you were looking for any, but damn. Sorry, it urks me when young ladies and men take given chances and blow them. I will keep you and her in prayer and that is where you should put it. God Bless.
Reply:get a room wow iam sorry about your case , she sound she been thru alot that why she acting up , she need to know that some love her , and care about she might get preg. really soon that what happen to me . best of luck
Reply:If she wants to have a better life, then she should be making an effort. Skipping school, doesn't make it seem like she's trying to hard. Explain to her you can not keep picking up the pieces when she screws up. Tell her, and say it firmly, that if she lives with you, she will be attending some type of school. She'll get a job so she can help you out with the rent. It sounds like she may need a little tough love. I don't think her mother did the right thing by just putting her out. I don't think she wanted to deal with her. Best of luck to the both of you.
Reply:I agree with may08. Sit her down and tell her that since she is old enough, she should get a part time job to help support. Tell her that you aren't making enough money to ssupport the both of you.

Reply:my friends dead cause he took in ms trouble she cut him in half with a shotgun.

if she doesnt want the help let her go. they have institutions for that
Reply:No, what you need to do is run out and buy a great big can of whoopup, and beat her hind end. You felt sorry for her not really knowing the entire situation at home. You thought she'd treat you with respect. Instead of enrolling her in job corps, send her to a military boot camp where they WILL NOT HESITATE to open up that can.
Reply:Your niece needs to be sat down and explained to that if she wants to have a roof over her head that she will obey the house rules. If not she will be turned into child protective services. You're doing her a huge favor by letting her stay with you.

Acticities i do are X country, Volleyball, Spanish club, Community Service Club, Medical Club, and should start tutoring soon. But i didn't do any clubs fresh year except Community Service club my fresh year, and nothing else. I also got 1 Saturday Detention fresh year, so far i am clean though.

Do you think that my chances of getting into a good college are partially ruined b/c of my fresh year?

What colleges do you think i can get into? (i am looking to becoming an orthodontist/ oral surgeon maybe, but at least something in medical field).

Are your freshman grades important in high school?
Some schools count all grades equally, but some do not count freshman grades at all, so it just depends on where you want to go. Also, if you end up having resolved the problems of your freshman year, and do well on the SATs, you will still have a lot of chances.
Reply:your freshman grades are just as important as your senior grades, since they go towards the same cause- your GPA.

But your GPA is excellent, and if you're determined now, I'm sure it'll only rise more.

Keep it up!
Reply:You can't have a 4.34 (if you go on 4.0 scale ) unless you take AP classes. In sophmore year, you didn't take AP. Unless you go on 5.0 scale then that is different of course.

Colleges do care about freshmen year, they care that you passed all your classes. Until you take the SAT tests then I would have no idea what your chances are. If you're planning on the Ivy's (Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, Brown, Pen State) then all A's is crucial and though other people may tell you "it's not all about grades!" have you ever seen someone with a B average get into Stanford? For now, you have all A's (except a B in PE but that doesn't really count as long as you don't get below that).

My son's grades???

My son just started Jr. High and he wanted to take Pre-Algebra instead of the regular 7th grade math, he has had math tutoring in the past but started doing much better last school year, but today I got his report card and he is usually a straight A student, but he got a C-. Also his behavior in another class is an N and he is always an H student, for three years in a row. Any ideas on how I can approach him and work out this problem? I think he just doesn't understand the work in the math and he and this other teacher have a personality clash, but he can't change classes now.

My son's grades???
personality clashes will happen all through his life... infact i work with someone that gets on my nerves and i do everything possible to keep from having to speak to them for any reason. luckily they work in a different area and mostly keeps to themself. i can't quit my job over it no more than he can quit his class. this is a great opportunity for him to learn how to deal with this. as far as his grades go, at report cards time was the first hint you had he wasn't doing so good? well, my advice to you would be to get that teachers email address and keep in contact and ask her weekly for grade updates, test and quiz dates, and follow up making sure his homework is getting turned in. i know it is his responsibility to stay on top of this stuff but you can't get mad if you are aren't making sure he is doing what is expected of him....
Reply:on the bright side, when you think of colleges they wont be looking at these grades. i would suggest you to help your son develop good working habits though. highschool is alot harder to handle. junior high is to help kids get ready to enter highschool where everything matters from then. Report It

Reply:I would suggest you get him tutoring again.

It sounds as if this personality clash that he has

with the teacher can be affecting his interest and willingness

to pay attention in class. If he is so busy hating the teacher, he isn't paying attention and if he isn't paying attention, then how is he going to know what he is doing. Its unfortunate, but I have hated many of my math teachers and there isn't much you can do as a parent to change your child's feelings towards this teacher.
Reply:Have you talked to your son to find out why he is having trouble with pre-Algebra and this particular teacher? Once you have the information on his perspective of the situations will hopefully make clear the next actions.

And even if it is not school policy to let students change classes at this point, there should be some exception for special circumstances. Otherwise it's going to be a long semester/year for everyone involved.
Reply:Jr. high is a difficult time for a kid. i had the same issue and the best thing my parents did was to just let me work it out. look at it this way these grades do not get looked at by colleges incourage him to keep trying but don't make it a huge deal. he's learning how to balance school life and social life and making friends it will get easier. it's tough to try to fit in and still make the grade.
Reply:Algebra is one thing that i never understood. Algebra 1 or Algebra 2. But i excelled in the "harder" geometry. Studies say that your brain works harder for one subject over the other and something like 2% of people do well in both. So don't worry about it, it is a hard class. I hated algebra. Definitely get him a tutor and check with his behavior. This could be another factor towards his grades. My teachers gave me automatic U's in behavior for sleeping. And if you sleep in math.... you are screwed. So check up on that, call the teacher, see whats up.

Does He Like Me or............?

A guy friend of mine is always looking at me. We've become really good friends and we're always flirting with eachother. Even our teacher tries to keep us as far apart as possible because she thinks we're going out, but he told me today that he thinks that these 2 grls in his Math tutoring class are rele hot! He tells me he loves me(in a friend kinda way) but im starting to like him. Does he like me back? or does he like the other grls? The other grls dont go 2 my skool so i c him more often then they do. HEEELPP!

Does He Like Me or............?
It sounds like he likes you, he might have just brought the other two girls up to see how you would react. If you like him back maybe one day when you guys are hanging out you should get on the subject and ask. :)
Reply:Ah, that old trick. Girl, he definitely likes you. He is only trying to make you jealous. And you said it yourself, you two flirt. It doesn't matter if you are only "just friends" you like each other. Though, if I was you, go ask him out to see if you have a chance together.

I am doing bad at school help?

I don't know what is wrong with me. This is the third week of my junior year in high school. My grades are like C's n D's. And I have a bad start. My classes are 2 honors, 2 CP, %26amp; 2 cpu classes. I have no ride for tutoring. I try to understand but i don't. I try to study but its a failure. I don't talk in class and just listen to the teacher. But I just am a failure.

I am doing bad at school help?
You are not a failure. Failures have given up trying - as long as you keep trying, you still have the chance to succeed.

Sit down with each of your teachers individually and explain your problem. Let them know what you don't understand. Ask them if you can do certain assignments over for a better grade, or if they can help you figure out how to do better on the next assignment. Your teachers are eager to help you, but you need to ask them.

Also, talk to your dean or school counselor. They are also there to help you. Perhaps honors classes are not for you, and you would be more comfortable in a regular class. Explain your difficulty in getting to tutoring.

Also, talk with your parents. They need to help you find a way to get to tutoring, and need to understand why you are struggling.

Don't worry, lots of students struggle in the beginning of the school year (especially junior year, which is much more rigorous) and are able to change things and end with high grades. You can too, as long as you ask for help and don't give up.
Reply:study more , read more, join a club so you grt more honors and stuff and it will be great for your record and college application..and plus you'll get to meet friends!

um try to be less anxiety (shy, afraid to talk to ppl) and open up to ppl alittle more

smile too!

good luck!
Reply:I would definitely suggest that you talk to your teacher, dean of studies, counselor....whom ever will hear you out. School's staff likes it when students show true interest and concern and they will figure a way to get you the help you need. Also check in w/the tutoring class and find out if anyone is willing to help you with a ride. You'd be surprised how many times a student might live near your area. Also, get a study buddy from your class and a phone number where you will have someone to call and ask for help or advice when you are stuck. And don't stay quiet in class....ask questions....sometimes students are afraid or embarrassed to ask questions and you'd be amazed at how many others have the same confusions and doubts but are also hesitant to ask.

Whatever you do don't let yourself get behind...it sounds like you are a very bright person, you just need a little help and if you ask for it I'm sure things will get back on track..Good Luck!! :)
Reply:Have you ever tried to stay after class and talk to the teacher? If they see you are trying and you are still not getting it...most of them will be willing to help you out...you just have to take the extra time to talk to them individualy.

How to deal with bad grades and barely graduating?

My nephew, with whom my wife %26amp; I are very close, is graduating from the eighth grade (just barely). We have tried to encourage him by offering a camping trip %26amp; a laptop if he got A's and/or B's. We tried to make sure he had the help he needed to do well in all his classes (tutors). Unfortunately his mom isn't the best role model, basically saying she did poorly in school so it isn't a big deal that he does poorly too, and he lives with his grandmother b/c his mom can't hold down a job. What can we do to help our nephew? We try to help him see that doing well in school is important for his future so he can do the things we do that he dreams about like traveling, going to college and having a nice car etc. He has already been disciplined by having all recreational things he really likes, such as video games and TV, taken away. Unfortunately we live a two hour drive away and cannot be there in person for him as much as we'd like, but we speak to him on the phone frequently

How to deal with bad grades and barely graduating?
If he does not see it in his parents and within himself there is not much you can do.

Since you care so much have you considered taking him out of the situation he is in and taking him in? That may be just what he needs to help turn him around. But keep in mind that he is already behind and before High School hits he will need reinforcement and review of all the subjects he lacks to help prepare him for it. High School will not be as easy as Middle School was. His mom obviously does not care or he would have never gotten to this point. His grandmother can only do so much and the school work they need help with these days is like sending her to Mars and back. She will not be able to help him.

Phone calls alone won't help.

ADDITION:

If you're sister-in-law lives with her mother and the nephew is being raised by his grandmother because she can not hold a job and support him then she is not a fit mother and someone needs to find her unfit or confront her for bring unfit and help the child. He ha High School ahead of him to get his life where he needs it to be (on the right path).
Reply:I think that is so awesome that you are there for him and he has mentors like you. Just Awesome!

I agree with the custody thing however that could cause problems and he could withdrawal at the same time.

I would talk to the school and find out if they have sessions that he can attend, like a after school program. My son did this and wow to the improvement. He was a all A and/or B student until 9th grade. We knew that we had to do something.%26gt;%26gt; I contacted the school and they were more then willing to help. My son had to check in( after school scholars) and he would go two or three times a week for 1 1/2 hours each time. This gave him time to do his home work and/or get help. We also had a great Principal that would check in with him once a month and ask him how he was and how his grades were. The support system is there, sometimes closer than we think.

It made all the difference to/for him.

Don't give up....he needs you even at a distance!

Thinking of his age...and they need instant gratification, offer money for each quarter marking.

5 dollars for each A.....or 100.00 dollars for honor roll.

Kid love $$ however they do need something that is reachable and something they don't have to wait nine months for.

We did the 100.00 for honor roll....and it does work. Well two out of three children...lol

One more thought...send cards in the mail....ones with inspiration... something he receives and makes him feel important too.

Best wishes
Reply:well Why Not take him for the summer and show him what a real family is supposed to be like and then maybe even seriously think about having legal custody or adopting him.At the moment you are doing the very best you can with him and for him,Keep encourage him and calling him.
Reply:i think that he has lost his motivation to do well, because of what his mom says. it seems that when his mom says that it isnt a big deal that he's doing bad in school, he just takes it as his mom doesnt care. i guess talking to his mom and him both would help, and keep encouraging him, thats most important.
Reply:Speak to his mom.
Reply:Get him a big brother companion to help him get motivated.Phone calls alone wont help.He needs a role model close to his own age to give him a perspective on life.
Reply:There isn't much more you can do, unless you want to move closer or take custody of him.
Reply:See about finding him a professional big brother. Not so much for homework reasons, but when he sees this professional, or almost professional having all these cool things, his cool life, etc., that might be the kick in the butt your nephew needs.
Reply:Without pushing to get the education, does he respond to you and your wife favorably when you are all together? My reason for asking that question is have you any thought of being available for adoption of your nephew? Is there any chance for that to happen? That would probably answer all the challenges you have with him because of the distance. If that is not possible what about a foster parent type situation, can you get custody of him until he is of age. Since his Mother has a difficult time keeping a full time job, then I would think that she would be open to that idea. I'm sure the Grandparents would also be relieved because of the additional expense that its costing them to keeping your nephew. It would also be like giving him a second change to improve his grades if you could get him transferred to a school near you after he graduates from the eighth grade. If he really is interested in a higher education than it would be in his best interest to be around people that can generate positive actions and help in his behalf. He can do without any negative feed back. Some younger prople don't have any idea how to cope with that kind treatment. I really hope some of this advise will help you, Good Luck, I'm sure you will do the right thing for your nephews best interest.
Reply:Sounds like he is bored or occupied with other things in school other than learning. My oldest son realized this on his own and asked if he could go to an alternative school to finish high school. He has brought home nothing but A's and B's since and he is also going to graduate earlier than his peers. You may want to offer this as an option and see if the mother will let him stay with you so you can see it through. Good luck

Is she playing favorites?

Ok well this is the story... me and one of my best friends are in a college math class together and ever since we got in it... my friend has always ALWAYS got a better grade than me no matter what, even by one point. I have never gotten a higher grade than her. Well this last test we took we had trouble with the chapter so we went to tutoring 2 days and we studied together for 2 days! It seems like the teacher likes my friend better than me or she is playing favorites because she always gives my friend a better grade. On the test she got a 97 and me a 84! I mean god we tried and studied so hard and i am just so mad.. i dont understand it! Thats the only conclusion i can come to. I never did anything to the teacher either... i have always been so nice to her. Oh and i was wondering if maybe she looks at the names of the papers she grades b/c we turned ours in together so my test was on top of hers! i dont know what to think!

Is she playing favorites?
did u ever compare answers? usually teachers giv grades for the ANSWERS on ur TEST. ever look at hers and see if the answers r different. OHHHHHH.... yeah, right. tests r based on wat u learned. if ur answers r exactly the same, tell the principle. although i highly doubt it.

what i would do is compare your answers with your friends. if yours is just like hers and you got it wrong i would talk with the teacher. and if that doesnt work then i would go talk to some one higher up. your now paying for your edu. and you can have someone mess you up because they like someone better.
Reply:just face it you are just not that good in math

Troubled Engineering Student--should I give up?

I graduated from high school with a 3.5 GPA and entered the Biomedical Engineering department in my university. After one semester, my GPA is a pitiful 2.7 (an A in one class, C in Calculus, and B's in the rest). Some of my professors were tougher than my peers', but I felt I could have done better. It's not like I don't try hard, though. I keep all my notes organized, do the homework on time, and ask for help from tutors or TA's when I can.

This semester, I have B's in all my classes so far. However, even if I can manage to raise my GPA up a bit, I still feel there's no way I can get an internship, co-op, or any kind of training experience. I'm really interested in something to do with genetic engineering for my career and I'm not a person who usually gives up, but I want a reality check so I don't waste money going through a degree I will perform too pitifully in for people to hire me.

Should I keep going or reconsider my major? Any advice is welcome.

Troubled Engineering Student--should I give up?
It depends on how badly you want it.

I graduated with a 2.8 in Civil Engineering - according to you, I should be considering slitting my wrist, jumping off a building, or changing careers to feeding animals at the zoo.

Grades only mean something when you are: 1) competing with a bunch of other students for the same job right out of college; 2) entry into grad school; or 3) you make it mean something.

Why do I say all this? The last two years, I was entrusted to run a civil engineering company in my area. I was the boss, the head engineer - this is supposed to be reserved for the best and the brightest, right? No - again, students perceptions get the better of them, what you can do matters more than what your grades were. As I would interview students, it was amazing the number of students who had extremely high GPA's, but couldn't think their way out of a cardboard box. My best employees were the ones in the 2.5 - 3.0 range - they were usually active in other areas and lower grades were most often a symptom of boredom, not inability. I have a few brainiacs, but they are few and far between. The "brainy", the ones with the high GPA's on average seemed emotionally stunted.

I have since gone back to public sector (excelled in private sector, but I didn't like the hours). I work with a guy who is obviously smart - is a transportation engineer, and is going to Grad School in off hours working on his MBA, and is considering law school. But, talking to him is like dealing with a 16-year old waiting for the next Star Wars prequel or Star Trek convention.

My point is this - if you love the field, then stay with it. Your first job, or coop, or internship, should you get it, may be a crappy one. But after that, what matters is performance. What your grades are after the first job, even where you got your degree from will mean next to nothing. Put together an impressive resume/curicculum vitae - that will be the impressive part.

Good luck - and if bio-medical engineering "ain't yo' thang", there is starting to be a shortage of civil engineers. There's nothing like driving by one of your completed projects, knowing everyday that people see it and/or use it, and thinking "I did that."
Reply:I am in the engineering field as well, and the first couple of semesters I had the same problem. But, after preparation I am now one of the top students in my career. If engineering is what you like, do not let your grades make you think that that is the knowledge you have. A grade is just a grade, what is important is what you do when a problem comes up, and what steps you take to resolve it. Working at an industry is way different then studying at school, grades arent everything... but its really good that you worry about them.
Reply:Sounds like you know the answer already.

There is a tendency in this country to elevate to the level of incompetence. They call it "reaching for the stars", I call it "having one's head in the clouds".

Ask yourself if you would rather be a crappy lawyer or a superstar paralegal? A crappy doctor or a superstar RN?

Check out the prospects of being a genetic counselor or pediatric nurse specializing in genetic diseases. Or helping people during pregnancy, etc.

At least you chose a field that is booming- you will be fine. Think of all the suckers who thought that there was plenty of opportunity and room for growth after law school! Cubicle slaves with 100k in debt...
Reply:If you really like this field, stick with it. Consider hiring a part time tutor. If you're struggling through and not enjoying this, go to something you enjoy doing. Life is short.
Reply:It's a personal decision, of course.

Do you think you can raise yourself to a competitive level in your current major through lots of studying? If not, then another field would be the way to go.

Have you considered a trade instead of a white-collar engineering position? I'm studying building systems engineering technology right now. I could do well in a more difficult program, but the job prospects in the HVAC/refrigeration trades are amazing, and the pay's great, and it's got enough of a barrier to entry that the field can't get flooded. At the same time, if you start now you could have a tradesman's ticket and be making a very nice salary before you even get your first entry-level "real" engineering job. There's nothing wrong with a good trade, especially with the way white-collar jobs are fought for in our society. By going a different way, you can benefit from scarce labour in an essential business; and instead of scoring at the bottom of your university classes, you score maybe at the top of the simpler technologist training. (My average right now is 95-97%, which ain't bad at all and the courses are still interesting.)
Reply:Sounds like you are a second-semester freshman. DON'T GIVE UP YET! My grades in my first year were C's too and I was feeling overwhelmed. It is tough making that transition from highschool where you are near the top of your class into college where that lower 50% of the student body isn't there anymore. Also realize that many of the classes you take freshman and sophmore years are "weed-out" classes and designed to be tough, getting rid of the marginal students. Try one more year and then analyze your position.

And yes I did graduate in engineering and have had a wonderful and rewarding career.
Reply:grades are just numbers. it wont tell who we really are. engineering is tough, but dont give up!
Reply:If you are biomed, don't really expect internships that quickly. You are pretty much almost in the same boat as pre-meds so go for your research and labs, which would be hard to get unless you have 3.5+ GPA. I would say the major most like yours would be a chemical engineering degree. Any other engineering would require you to probably take some other classes.
Reply:Well if you have Bs in all your classes then you are better off then other people. I mean people that are completely lost have already dropped out probably and if you really have a grasp on the stuff you are learning then you should definitly stay.
Reply:the most important thing is your GPA in your last 2 years. thats mainly what employeers/grad schools look at. Also, a lot of emphasis is put on recommendations from your professors. If you can do well your last two years (3.0+ gpa) and get good recommendation letters from your professors, you can get hired. As for the internship/co-op, just apply to them all and see if you get lucky. if not, its not the end of the world. i definately wouldn't quit. maybe you could talk to your classmates and figure out what it is they do differently than you.

i know it might seem like you're in a hole right now, but trust me, you aren't that bad off. you can easily recover from this.

I'm terrified about college and it's not far away, I have a few questions to ask.?

1. Let's say that I wanted to be a Dentist. Would I just go to the College and speak with a counselor and she'll set up my schedule for me - would she know what to give me?

2. Do Public Colleges (Community Colleges) accept High School College Dual Credit. I already paid for 6. I might pay for 10 soon.

3. How can High School Credit hours help you.

4. Can someone explain the HOURS and credits thing in College. B/c if it's confusing me.

LAST THING:

5. If I pay for 4 College Credit hours in High School for Physics and in college I have to take physics 1 and 2 (I think), would I still have to take them. ? ! ? !

Thank you - Please number when answering and try to answer all especially if your a COLLEGE STUDENT.

Also, I'm planning to go 2 years to a Community College and then 2 years to a university. Does that sound good if I'm going to be a dentist? I might get the 2 years at the public one for free if I do 50 hours of unpaid tutoring!

I'm terrified about college and it's not far away, I have a few questions to ask.?
1. yes just talk to them and they will help you

2. yes and no it depends where you go. you might have to take a placement test and they will determine what classes you need.

3. well if you are good in the subject you might be able to skip the idiot dumb dumb class and go right to the real thing.

4. its the same thing they call it credit hours (its mostly for the insurance complay so you can stay on your parents health insurance).

5. depends where u go
Reply:Good for you for planning ahead on your education.

1: I'm not sure what you would need in order to be a dentist (I majored in English), but you would do well to talk to some dentists in your area. They'll help you get an idea of what classes to take, where to apply, etc. Be wary of letting the counselor set up your schedule. Remember, they work for the university and you're paying to go there. My first year, my counselor tried to talk me into going to school for five years, even though my major only required 124 credits. I finished in four years without overloading my schedule and saved myself thousands of dollars in room and board.

2: Colleges accept credits earned in high school; however, each one has different policies. The college counselor can help you with that, even before you apply there. I took AP English, but it counted as a humanities in college, go fig. I got the credit, but not where I thought I would. Ask around.

3: Advanced Placement credits earned in high school allow you to work towards your degree before you actually go to college. Basically, it helps you save money because you're not paying college tuition, room or board while taking those classes.

4: Every college major has a certain amount of credits you must earn before you can get your degree. For example, my English degree required that I earn 124 credits. For each course you take in a semester, you earn 3 credits (some classes are worth 4 credits, others are worth 2 or even 1.5). So, let's say that during your first sememster, you take an English class, a history class, chemistry and algebra (all worth 3 credits) you will have earned 12 credits at the end of that semester, assuming you maintained a passing grade in each class. If you take 12 credits a semester (the minimum to maintain full time student status), at two semesters per year, you will reach 124 credits (and graduate) in 10 semesters (5 years). If you bump that up to 15 credits a semester (which is average), you'll graduate in 8 semesters, or four years. The challenge is finding a balance between taking enough classes to help you get the credits you need to graduate and not overloading yourself to the point where you're burned out and unable to study.

5: yes, you'll have to take physics in college. I don't know why, it's just the way it is. The upside is that physics in college is a lot more fun. The profs seem to like experiments a lot.

You might consider doing all of your schooling at one college. Transfering credits between colleges can be a pain. Besides, a lot of state run colleges are inexpensive for state residents. For example, if you live in PA, you can get a great education at Penn State (a very well-known and well-funded university) for a song, compared to privately-owned universities. Plus, state schools often have ties with the local medical community, which will help you with your pursuits.

Good luck to ya!
Reply:I think the first thing you should do is talk your family dentist and ask him what it's like to be a dentist. The start-up expenses and overhead are incredible. It is an occupation racked with pressure, stress, and disappointment. Dentists have among the highest suicide rate of all professions, and have to deal with clients who can't or won't pay. See if you can spend a couple hours shadowing a dentist on the job so you can see first hand what they really do from thier point of view. Also, I have never heard of a physician (which is what a dentist is) who started out at a community college.
Reply:1. When you get accepted to college most freshmans arrive on campus about a week before classes usually start. During this week you will get familarized with the campus and how to sign up for classes. Depending on your major(which would Pre-Det) you will get a list of classes you can take. You pretty much control what your schedule is and when you wish to take a class(morning, afternoon, night) depending on when the class is offered. you will get a list of courses suggested during group advisement(which is how freshman get advised) I'm Pre-med and the Pre-Det program is pretty similar. It's best for your first semester to take freshman like classes(makes it easier to meet people because most of the people in your class will be freshman) take Engl 101, History, and things like that.

2. I don't know what Dual Credit is but i assume you mean if you have taken college level classes in highschool, i don't know about much about how the community college works but i assume they will take the credits if you have recieved them in college.

3. You only recieve high school credit in college if you have taken AP classes. At the end of the year in highschool you have to take the test to see if you get the credit. If you do get college credit in high school it just means you don't have to take like a freshman level class in college. For example if you are taking AP English and you pass the Ap test than you can skip taking Engl 101 and 102 in college and move to more upper level classes. It just means that you go into to college with a few more credits than other people so it can be beneficial but it won't kil you if you don't get the AP credit.

4. Hours and Credits. Depending on what type of class take you either get 3 credits or 4. You need 120 credits to graduate from College. So a class is assigned a credit. Most English and History classes are 3 credits each. Most math and Science are 4. You need 15 credits(about 5 classes) a semester to be a full time student. Credits and Hours are the same thing. If you are taking 5 classes each 3 credit than you have 15hours worth of credits towards graduation for that semester. It will be explained a little better when you are in school, it's really easy though

and

5. As long as you pass the Physics AP test you will not have to take Physics 1 and 2. It depends on your score on the Ap exam. I think you need to make a 4 and you get both credits for Physics 1 and 2. Which means you get to college you will not have to take those classes because you took and passed them in high school. It also means that you will have 6 credits as soon as you start college

I hope this helps. I'm a junior at a University and it really isn't that scary. College is nothing like High school. TRUST ME. It's pretty amazing when you get the hang of it.

And i would just go to a university. Transferring is always a hassle and the experience of college is just to fun.

Reply:1. a college catalog will help you to prepare a course of study-- you will not be able to talk with a college councilor until you are an enrolled student

2. you have to provide more information -- your High School councilor should be able to analyze your transcript and answer this question easily

3. Again talk with your H.S. Councilor

4. one hour of class time per week is is equal to one credit hour -- so if you take a three credit course you will spend 3 hours per week in class for that subject for the length of one school term. labs are considered additional time

outside of classroom study.

5. assuming you pass the course with the required grade your local community college should honor some or all the equivalent course time in H.S. -- again talk to your H.S. guidance councilor.

GO TO THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE for the first two years -- keep your grades high and you will easily move on to a four year school and save a lot of money. once in a C.C. you will learn the ropes about making the transfer after the first two years there.

SOMETHING SEEMS VERY WRONG IF YOU HAVE TO ASK THESE QUESTIONS ON-LINE -- YOU SHOULD BE GETTING THIS INFO FROM YOUR SCHOOL COUNCILOR/ ADVISER --

Which job should I take?

I am already working as a personal trainer at this gym called Curves. I just got a phone call from this tutoring place called "Casa", which is an after school day care program for immigrant children. I used to do voulenteer service hours there, and I loved it. Now they are asking me to go work there. Another this is I want to be teacher when I grow up, so this can be good.

Advatages of Curves: I get to do my homework while I am getting paid b/c sometimes people never come. I like the people. My boss is awesome. Disadvantages: I get paid 6.50 an hr. I have to pay for parking which is $6 a day, and I work for 6 or more hrs. and sometimes on saturdays.

Advantages of Casa: I get paid $8 an hr. free parking, I dont work on weekends. I only work for about 4 hrs a day. It's right next to my school so i can go there straight from school.I love children, and my boss would also be awesome. Disadvantages of Casa: I don't get to do my h/w while getting paid so I have to take my own time.

Which job should I take?
when you get out of school, you aren't going to get paid for doing personal things. at the casa job, you are getting experiecne that can help you get a job when you do graduate.
Reply:Thanks guys i chose casa... at the end i work less and get paied more... and if u noiticed i put more disadvantages with curves than casa Report It

Reply:casa
Reply:I would go with Casa. You'll have a higher pay so that will help make up the difference in you paying for your parking fee despite less hours. it will give you a great opportunity and experience for future jobs. It's close to home, making it easier for you to be punctual to work. Don't worry about the homework thing. I understand that it's convenient to do hw at your job but it's not meant to be done at work. You will just have to set aside some time each night to do your homework.

North Carolina ECHO SONOGRAPHY AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS INFO?

1. How difficult to be accepted and what are best schools in N.C.?

2. Which is more satisfying?

3. Which is more difficult curriculum?

I'm career shifting at 55, probably will need tutoring or less rushed curriculum for physiology memorization. Appreciate info on studies and working environment. Note: I am dumb. Learn much, much better with smaller classes and individual attention from teacher or study groups to keep motivated. Have old southern manners which means that I would not work well with rude, arrogant teachers, doctors, or coworkers. ( I have heard tales and been exposed to such, along with wonderful teachers, doc's and allied health workers). Please advise as to environment.

North Carolina ECHO SONOGRAPHY AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS INFO?
1) Echo sonography

There's sonography and there's echocardiography (and other subspecialties of sonography). Here's a great page on the work and education of sonographers:

http://www.ultrasoundcareers.org/why.htm...

and more information about the career from the American Society of Echocardiography:

http://www.asecho.org/Help/SonographersF...

There are six schools in NC that offer a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (the official name for this field) degree. You should check with each one about the types of support that they give their students (such as small classes, individual attention, extra help for testing, writing, and math, etc.):

Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College - Asheville

http://www.abtech.edu/

Caldwell Comm College %26amp; Tech Institute - Hudson

http://caldwell.cc.nc.us

Forsyth Technical Community College - Winston-Salem

http://forsyth.cc.nc.us

Johnston Community College - Smithfield

http://johnstoncc.edu

Pitt Community College - Greenville

http://www.pitt.cc.nc.us/

South Piedmont Community College - Polkton

http://spcc.cc.nc.us

2) An Occupational Therapist must have at least a bachelor's degree (until 2007, when a master's degree will be required):

http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos078.htm

But you can be an Occupational Therapy Assistant with an associates degree.:

http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos166.htm

http://careerplanning.about.com/od/occup...

There are four schools in NC that offer that degree:

Cabarrus College of Health Sciences

http://www.cabarruscollege.edu

Cape Fear Community College

http://cfcc.edu/ota

Durham Technical Community College

http://www.durhamtech.edu

Pitt Community College

http://styx.pittcc.edu/division/departme...

3) The differences and similarities between the two (and why one may be better for you).

a) Occupational therapists (and assistants and aides) work hands-on with clients - it's a physical job that requires a reasonable amount of strength, flexibility, dexterity, endurance, balance, etc. Sonography is a job you can often do sitting down.

b) They're both helping professions of course, but in occupational therapy you often work with a client one-on-one and for longer term and so get to know them and their situation. A sonographer may not even actually talk to the person for whom they have done the diagnostic test and even when they do, it is often a one-time thing.

c) Both fields require certification. This is one way of being able to tell the quality of the education you're getting - find out how many of their students pass the certification exams.

d) Go to the links above and look at the classes you have to take to compare which you think would be harder based on your skills (are math skills your strong suit? lab skills? Etc.)

Bottom line: the best way to find out what the right program and school is for you is to interview them directly and press them for as much information as possible. Tell them you have a hard time in school and find out what they’ll do for you. Ask them if they have a list of former students who are working as sonographers or occupational therapists that you can talk to, then interview them about their school and work experience.

You can get more information about these two fields (and look for more ways to get specific information from these two professional associations:

Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography

http://www.sdms.org/

The American Occupational Therapy Association

Reply:Here's something to think about that might make a difference. What reasons do you have for going to UPenn?? Any specific program you hope to get into eventually if you get in there? The admissions officers like to see people who have reasons to go to their university.
Reply:wow, that's a lot of stuff; we don't have to do nearly as many extra-curricular activities to get into UK universities. In fact, there wouldn't be enough room on the application. That doesn't really answer your question. I think the ones above me helped you out though.

Economics question I need a lot of help!!!!!!!!!!!?

Three college students are considering operating a tutoring business in econ. This business would require that they give up their current jobs at the student recreation center, which pay $6000 per year. A fully equipped faclity can be leased at a cost of $8000 per year. Additional costs are $1000 per year for insurance and $.50 per person per hour for materials and supplies. Their services would be priced at $10 per person.

a. what are fixed costs? rent and insurance

b. what are variable costs? materials and supplies

c. marginal costs? their change in output which would be the $10 they charge per hour per student.

d. How many students would it take to break even?

I don't get d at all I can't figure it out.

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

Economics question I need a lot of help!!!!!!!!!!!?
a. and b. are right

c. is again $.50 per person per hour for materials and supplies

d. breakeven point is quantity (number of hours) where the profit is zero (i.e it turns from negative to positive)

so you write "profit=0"

x*10-x*0.5 - 1000 -8000 = 0

and solve it for x. that gives you total number of hours per year, you might want to divide it by 3 students, and number of weeks that they work (52 weeks in a year, minus breaks)

Homework help trolling on Yahoo Answers?

Does it annoy you guys that certain youngsters consider Yahoo Answers a free tutoring tool?

Some questions that are unbelieveably easy come up and for certain if a guy/girl cared to listen in the class or read the chapter in the book, there would be no need to ask.

But who cares? You don't have to read, just ask Answers and folks will have an answer for you.

I can understand hard questions: I have been in a situation a time or two when I was just banging my head against the wall and there was nobody to help me. I understand!

But c'mon! isn't it time you guys do your regualr homework yourself and stop doin this?

I encourage y'all to answer "Read your book!" and "Think about it! It is easy!" to this type of questions.

Peace out.

Homework help trolling on Yahoo Answers?
What really aggravates me is when they ask for websites on a particular subject and said subject is one with millions of websites and articles. Seriously, I think the internet has made students far more lazy than ever. No one *coughmegan*cough* wants to be responsible for their own work or time management and do it themselves. The easiest and laziest way to do it is go to Yahoo and get others to do it for you. Pathetic.

Even when I used to be ridiculously busy with school (college) I would still make time every chance I got to get the information I needed. There is just no excuse for being too lazy to do the work yourself.
Reply:My wife would agree with you lol. I always over-analyze things. Thanks for the feedback. =) Report It

Reply:I have to disagree. I was in a class where we had to survey people. There was 30 surveys that needed to be conducted and each of them had to have 3 or more people answer them. I work full time and go to school full time. I also have a small child. It was hard for me to go to the mall and stand there for hours asking people to take a survey. Y!Answers was a great place for me to post my homework for the people who had time to answer and get points. It was win-win.
Reply:There's a huge difference between helping someone and doing their work for them.

I'm happy to help people out and I can usually tell from the question if they've attempted to find the answer. On the other hand, If they post a question verbatim or don't show they've made any kind of effort, I move on to the next question.

What's unfortunate is there are people that are more than happy to do their work for them which is why they keep coming back.
Reply:I hate when they retype the question from the text verbatim, with no text in the elaboration window, no context, no clue as to where they're getting stuck.

Makes me think they aren't bothering to think about it, so why should I?

I just don't answer them.
Reply:no, I am always glad to help out, that's why I am here.
Reply:Agreed. Whats your question though?

How difficult is this Junior Year schedule on a scale from 1-5?

5 being hardest.

Honors Chemistry (all year)

Honors Algebra 2 (all year)

AP Psychology (2 trimesters)

World Geography (all year)

Spanish 3 (all year)

AP English (Lit, Comp.) (all year)

Algebra 1C (one trimester)%26lt;---- (I got a C in that in 9th grade, and I want to change it to an A.)

How hard will this be while ALSO being involved in Musical, Play, Cross Country, Track, Tutoring, Leadership team, and work?

How difficult is this Junior Year schedule on a scale from 1-5?
I would say 4. Only because if your decision is to take this much, then you can handle it moderately well. I'm taking a similar schedule, and I think it'll be tough with all my extracirriculars. But have faith! Tough it out, and organize your time. (:

PS: The only thing I think might be hard is to do all that and have a job at the same time. A job might interfere with your study time depending on what the hours are and what days. You might want to rethink the job idea, possibly.
Reply:Middle school:

6th grade: 3(It is easy but confusing. For the elctive you have something called "Discovery" which is when you take each elective for 6 weeks and then you switch to a new elective.)

7th: 4 (Everything is a blur! But if you focus on it and you keep your grades up, it won't be such a blur!)

8th: 5 ( The hardest! Only because the teachers are preparing yourselves for High School! But, if you know what you are doing, then you have nothing to worry about!)

Leadership: Very!!!

Musical: Very!!!

Play: Hard!!!

Cross Country: You need to focus

Track: Depends on schedule

Tutoring: You will be very tired!

Hope I helped!
Reply:geez you get 7 subjects? I get only 5 hehe mostly because I'm done with all my graduation requirements. Compared to my schedule, I'd say yours is harder lol I'll give it a 3.9

my schedule

Honors Physics

AP US history

English 11

Spanish 3 honors

Pre-calc honors

study period (my favorite)

these are all for the whole year

it'll be hard juggling school with all that extracurricula you're doing. AP classes are very challenging, you'll have to give up some sports else your grades suffer. I know its tough but we all have to give up something in our lives. Good luck with your education =)

might I suggest giving up work? and work only in the summer. Thats what I do, I work in the summer only. If you really love musicals, I wouldn't want you to give it up. Play, you might need to give that up more often than you want lol. You should give up either cross country or track, they're about thesame anyway. Tutoring, well if you're struggling you definitely need that then. Leadership team, if you feel like you really need it and you cannot succeed in life without leadership skills, then dont drop it. If not, then I'd suggest dropping it. Good luck again

Reply:My schedule included:

Pre-Calculus

AP Psychology

English lll AP

Choir

Chemistry ll AP

and AP/Dual-Credit US History.

I'm also in the varsity choir, a "show" choir, an officer in choir, a student-leader in my youth group, in NHS [which just requires lots of community service], attend FCA [fellowship of Christian athletes] weekly, and Science National Honor Society meetings bi-weekly.

I'd say my year has been about a four. I honestly think you're stretching yourself too thin. If anything, I'd give up the job. Musical, Play, cross country, and track are all "seasonal", so to speak. Tutoring and Leadership team are year-round, I'm assuimg. But those don't sound like they'll be entirely too time consuming. Your class load really isn't all that bad. I'd say that you're at about a 2.5-3 with classes alone and a 4 with your intended extra-curriculars. Stick with it though. I would just consider not working, and if you do that, you should really be fine. I'm not gonna lie, though.. At some points you'll just want to curl up in a ball and cry, but believe me that those times will pass. They don't happen too frequently, but they may happen.. Things get better though.
