Could I catch up vie home education? I am18. i have missed 5 YEARS of school?

can anyone help? I am in the most terrible situation I think it is possible to get into and I really don't know what to do anymore. I missed 4 years of school and got G grades in my GCSE exams (apart from a C grade in English) I wasn't being treated exactly ok at home....After I'd sat my GCSEs I got no help whatsoever... and I stpidly sat at home for the next 2 years doing nothing. I am now 18 years old.

I'm really really scared. I am 18, have had no education..and don't even know basic stuf such as how to cook, how to use a bus,how to use a washing machine etc.....

Could I catch up by Home Education method? I have worked out that it would take me 5 years of home education in order to catch up and before I could sit my GCSEs (I'd be 23 years old by that time) Would this ever work? Could this ever work? If so then how? Who would I need to contact? I wouldn't have a clue how to organise/arrange a programme of GCSEs....and neither would my parents. Who would teach me? Could my parents learn? Would it be very expensive for home tutors? If so..then how expensive?

I'm scared because I've been out of education for abut 7 years and I'm seriously scared...I feel as though I'm going mad and like i don't understand aything...don't know who I am anymore.....how can I catch up with other people of my age group are at this point in time? Please help me someone.has anything like this ever been done before. HOW can I catch up/ get to where other people are at this point in time? PLEASE HELP!!

You need to find better things to do with your life than posting the same questions over and over on Yahoo Answers. And as two different people (Clemence J and now Linda J).

You have been reported.
Reply:maybe you should have saved all 98 questions you asked about this subject on your last account. But wait, you were suspended for repeated postings on that account, huh?

Looks like you're trying to go 0 and 2.
Reply:I know your question was for home related education however I have a brother who dropped out of school %26amp; then thought better of it pretty much to late. He was getting older by the day %26amp; felt embarrassed to be in classes with younger students. I suggested the job corps to him. He ended up doing it %26amp; was thrilled to be with people who were going through some of the same hardships %26amp; levels or lack of education as him at older ages. They can help prep you for your GED %26amp; or teach you a trade (my brother got his GED %26amp; learned to be a welder). You can find info online or get an area phone # from your phone book.

Good luck
Reply:Congratulations! You are well started on a quest to fulfill your dreams! You have developed a desire to graduate. Now you need to evaluate why you want to graduate. You need to search yourself to find out exactly what you want to do with your life. Do you want to be a teacher, chef, artist, author, poet, equestrian, lion tamer, politician, or anything else? You can be whatever you want. You just have to decide if you are brave enough to follow your dream. I would suggest that you read The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren or visit the website http://www.purposedrivenlife.com/. I do not agree with everything Mr. Warren says or does, but his book is pretty insightful!

After you have decided what you want to do with your life you need to decide how to get there. You need to set a series of goals leading up to your ultimate purpose. Here is the link to an excellent webpage dealing with goal setting, http://www.about-goal-setting.com/goal-s...

Homeschooling is an excellent way to pursue your goals. Homeschooling allows you the freedom to learn what you want to learn. You do not have to sit in a classroom with the distractions of other students or a boring teacher. You do not have to read required material that really isn’t that great. However, with Homeschooling you have to be self motivated. You have to choose to learn. No one is going to tell you to get up in the morning at such and such a time to go to class. You have to do it yourself. One of the great things about Homeschooling is you do not have time restrictions. You can do your math assignment in half an hour or read six chapters. It doesn’t matter. Some days you might need to do something besides school, but that’s OK you can get a day ahead a month before you have to take a day off. My sister has really inspired me. She is motivated to finish her homeschooling by the time she turns 16. She was right on schedule before she was 14 and then she decided she wanted to finish 2 years early. Her education is in no way lacking. She is actually doing more than I did in my homeschool experience and I scored above the average on a standardized test.

The point is if you decide to do it, you can. You just have to make the choice. If you ever need advice or encouragement feel free to email me. I have lots of experience with the whole “school” thing and would love to help. If I do not know an answer I probably know someone who does. There is a link on my profile page so you can email me anonymously.
Reply:No you cannot simply catch up on your education, but you can study and prepare yourself for the GED. Take the GED test, and do your best. If you fail the first time, simply look at it as "you now know what to expect". Take the GED test again. You will pass it, if you apply yourself. Remember, if at first you do not succeed, try try again. Good luck.
Reply:that is alot and i think that you should go to night school or something because its a lot of word to get your ged and you shouldnt do it by home or computer you need to actually go to the school. You'll feel better if you see and actual professor and they give you a point of view and their prespective im a 9th grader and i definately know that i need the actual teacher physically there and teaching me.
Reply:You need to look into getting your GED. It doesn't matter how old you'll be when you finish...props to you for wanting an education, going back to school, and not wasting your life. Good Luck!
Reply:If you enter, "GED preparation" in the Yahoo! (or other) search engine, you'll be given a list of Web sites with info about preparing for the GED, aka General Education Diploma, aka High School Equivalency Exam. There are books available, probably even in libraries. If they aren't in your nearest branch, you can request that particular ones be sent there for you to compare them. Then, you can decide whether %26amp;/or which you'd like to invest in. Last I checked, the Adult GED course was free. If you get your own book, you could work at your OWN speed. The teacher would be available to ask questions of, when need be, too. That shouldn't take any 5 years. I have a 2002 GED book, --published by Barron's Educational Series, Inc (cost $25 US)-- that came with a CD-ROM as well. I understand that at about that same time, the GEDtest was made much more difficult. So, take that into consideration when someone who's passed the GED tells you about their experience with it (When was their exp?).

Reply:You aren't required to have a high school diploma in order to take your SAT, so you could possibly get into college if that is the sort of thing that you are wanting. Or you could just take a few home courses (I would recommend pre-Algebra, English, and/or world history) and then going to trade school (you can learn to be a plumber, electriction, beautition, or carpenter at one of them; whatever appeals to you). If you go to trade school and do well you can get a loan and start your own business. Good luck!
Reply:Find another group to bother....thanks for the points.
