Americans interested in politics..What is your opinion on this situation?

I am in a community program that tutors at risk teens and young adults. There is a 19 year old female from Mexico (she is legal, with a green card) I am tutoring who is pregnant with her 4th child. She says she wants another child b/c she gets more welfare money...WIC, medicaid, gov't gives her child support, free daycare, lowered rent, phonebills, etc. I consider myself very liberal but this is rediculous! Do you think welfare is taken advantage of???

Americans interested in politics..What is your opinion on this situation?
yes but its so difficult, because if you keep getting welfare then you're encouraging them to have more kids but you can't just stopped giving the money because then its like abandoning the kids, i'm moderate liberal too
Reply:How can there be any other reply than YES ! and how! the scenario you'd described is just that-- Abuse.

though I suppose that if welfare is the ~occupation~? than the woman you described is ~promoting~ herself and children into as secure a ~job~ as she can?
Reply:Yes. She makes it hard for the people who really work and deserve help. I am tired of people "pimpin'" the system. The people who work, struggle to pay the bills on time, have kids and the husband/wife leaves them high and dry unexpectedly (if he/she makes income and leaves, this kills the family's checkbook), they are the ones who suffer. This girl doesn't deserve to be here taking adavantage of this country because of those people who WORK will NOT get aid BECAUSE of women like HER. That is bull!
Reply:Hell yes! I too am liberal, but this is ridiculous. It's because of greedy, lazy people like her that those who actually need assistance, and WANT to get on their feet are unable to. She ruins the system, and then everyone stereotypes the program.
Reply:Yes
Reply:Yes, welfare is taken advantage of. I think your making up the story though. Just doesn't sound right to me..
Reply:totally they should send her to work for that money she gets
Reply:I hope that she is not in California(Im not sure how it is anywhere else) because all of that is now limited to 5 years of assistance. and when it runs out you and your kids are done!!!! I think it should be like that everywhere!! Tell her to stop being so lazy and tell her to support herself!!

OOOOO- That makes me so mad!!
Reply:yes and it is in Canada too. as horrible as it sounds we should not be taking in freeloaders.
Reply:Duh!! It's called welfare fraud. That green card only means she can legally work here, not become a breeding farm. A law was passed back in the 90's in Texas that only lets a person collect welfare for 36 mo. within a life time. WIC and reduced rent however are Federal programs that have no limits. Everyone of those kids probably has a different dad too. So why aren't they paying child support. The Bleeding Heart Liberals in this country don't think there should be consequences for frauds like this girl. The only consequence is on you and me and the rest of us poor schmucks that pay the taxes that pay her bills, and the kids she is breeding. She needs to get a job pay her taxes, or give the kids up for adoption and go back where she came from. There are also laws that require that you have any stray that you adopt be sterilized so we reduce the unwanted puppies and kittens but the liberals would never stand for mandatory birth control or sterilization for women like your student.
Reply:Since you are a liberal--- you vote to be screwed.

YOU DESERVE IT.

YOU VOTED FOR IT BY VOTING DEMOCRAT.
Reply:Of course the welfare system is abused. It doesn't give these losers any incentive to get off their lazy butts and get a job. The welfare system is so brodken it's beyond repair. If anything is done to fix it, the stupid ACLU will probably start suing everyone in Washington. What a joke, don't get me started.
Reply:I believe they are!
Reply:Welcome to to the truth known as " Conservative thought "

7th grade Pronouns in the correct case? help!?

Let me start off by saying...

Don't say, Do your own homework! Because this isn't homework. I went to tutoring and the teacher gave me a review packet for my test on monday. This isn't a grade, i just want to know how you figure this stuff out. Because i can NOT afford a bad grade. Here are some questions...

1. My parents recently began allowing __ to use the stove.

A) I: subject

B) I: direct object

C) me: direct object

D) subject

On question one, i have narrowed it down to choice C and choice D. i know the word "me" is right, but i dont know what the second part is. i dont remember covering this. So, my question is, what is a direct object, and what is the subject. Also, how do you find these in this particular sentence. Also, a website might be helpful.

2. The first day, I decided to make dinner for __

A) they: direct object

B) them: indirect object

C) them: object of the prepostion

D) they: subject

This one, i have narrowed it down to B and C.

7th grade Pronouns in the correct case? help!?
1) C - because object + verb + who/what = direct object. Plus, it may help to learn the subject vs. object forms of pronouns: ie. "I" - Subject and "Me" - Object

Try this page for more information - http://www.chompchomp.com/terms/directob...

2) C - because "for", the preposition, is referring to "them" (plus, it is the only noun after the word "for")

See this page for help on object of the preposition -

http://grammar.uoregon.edu/nouns/objectP...

Good luck!
Reply:question 1: "me" (c) .... parents is the subject %26amp; began allowing are the verbs. "me" is what is began allowing, so it's the direct object.

question 2: "them" (c) ...I is the subject %26amp; decided is the verb. The preposition for is the beginning of the prepositional phrase, and them is the end of the phrase.

Prepositional phrases start with prepositions and end with nouns or pronouns. These nouns/pronouns are objects of the preposition. Here's some prepositional phrases:

to the store

for my mom

with my friends

in the house

over the last few years

of time

by the way

between friends

under the table

Prepositions give direction or place (in, out, over, under, etc.) and the prepositional phrase in entirety can be an adjective phrase or adverbial, depending on what it modifies. tmi???

Once you know what a preposition is, you'll be fine. They're all over the place. One word of caution: "to" isn't always a preposition. sometimes it's part of a verb phrase. But that's the only word I can think of to be careful of.

2.) C for sure

What do i do?

When im a senior in high school, ive already been accepted into a couple of universities, on condition that i maintain all my classes with a grade of C or better. Well, im failing my physics class and ive already tried everything from tutoring to trying to get rid of the class. The administration wouldnt let me get rid of it and tutoring didnt help cause i still dont understand anything in that class. Im afraid the colleges will withdraw my admission status if they see my transcript. Its almost end of semester 1, is there anything i can do?

What do i do?
i'm a freshman in college and almost the same thing happened to me. however, dont fear because even if you fail it, colleges wont just take back your admission, they will first send you a letter asking why and how this happened. in the letter all you have to say is something like, i studied, got a tutor and it was still hard for me. the class is notoriously hard. also, make sure your other grades are better than normal so they will compare it to your other grades to make sure you dont have senioritis and are not slacking off.
Reply:Branch out into other realms of physics....things that are interesting and you'll get the grasp of basic concepts faster. It's easier to learn when something catches your attention and if you explore into areas that you won't get the chance to study in a conventional classroom, things will begin to have more clarity.

You could also explain to your teacher that you really need to make a higher grade and see if you can do anything for extra credit. It'll be hard work, but believe me, it will pay off in the long run.
Reply:dont know
Reply:Talk to your teacher, see if there is any extra credit work you can do. Also see if she/he can help you to understand it better. If they know you are trying hard they may increase your grades. Also in your interview talk about the issues you had.
Reply:Sorry lady but thats not my problem!!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
Reply:try tutoring again with someone else

also make the teacher work with you, insist upon extra time to have things explained to you

I have 6 summer jobs! What 2 do?

so lets c, this summer i have 6 freakin jobs, painting my new house, babysitting, tutoring, library "buddy" (community service points), dads grocery store, %26amp; moms store! i mean i need the $ badly but i also wana have time 4 my boyfriend, parties, %26amp; just sum time to hang, %26amp; specially time 4 myself....any suggestions on wat i should do?

I have 6 summer jobs! What 2 do?
OK...First painting the house is not a job..It's part of the family having something..Second..If you're doing points for community service that's just GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! Volunteers are just awesome.

Now working at the family stores...That's work for which I hope you are paid..Even though it's for the family..They should pay you.

All of these are not something you will do every day...All day..Organize your time..Work it out with your parents ..with a good attitude they should help..Good Luck
Reply:Prioritize your jobs and cut back because your going to be burnt out by the time summer is over.
Reply:Do what you can, your not superwoman and dont stress over it either.
Reply:Learn to manage your time really well. There are 7 days in a week, so I'm sure that you can find a way to fit all of that stuff in.
Reply:Quit the ones that dont pay much and stick with the ones youre gonna get more money from
Reply:if you need to drop a job or two it would be babysitting, becasue your mom and dad probably need your help at their stores, or maybe not, maybe you could stop working at your dads store and stop babysitting, then you would have more time, and still have community service points

good luck
Reply:drop the babysitting and hire someone to paint your house! tell your mom and dad to give you more hours!!! you are their daughter they have to pay you extra :)
Reply:work durring the week, leave weekends free. may have to quiet some though
Reply:quit some jobs and take some jobs during the school year.

Can someone please help me understand linear equations?

I really have a hard time solving linear equations. My teacher is gone for a whole week for a golf tournament (he’s a golf coach) so I can't go to tutoring. I don't know who else to go to, so anyone who helps me understand how to do these questions, it is much appreciated. Thank you.

Problem:

H.E. Lansburg's Weather and Health reports data gathered during World War II which shows that people use about 30 more calories per day for each 1 degree drop in the Celsius temperature. AT 21 degrees C, a working person uses about 3000 calories per day.

a) Explain how you know that the calorie consumption varies linearly with the temperature. What is the slope? Write the particular equation.

b) How many calories per day would a working person use in:

-the Sahara desert, when the temperature is 50 degrees C?

-Antarctica in August, when the temperature is -50 degrees C?

c) At what temperature does your model predict that a working person would use no calories at all?

Can someone please help me understand linear equations?
So.... when degrees = 21, calories = 3000

It says that when the temp drops 1 degree, the calories increase by 30.

So... if degrees = 20, calories = 3030

Degrees would be your x value

Calories would be your y value

So, you have two points (21, 3000) and (20, 3030).

a) you know if varies linearly because each variable changes at a constant rate. (If you drop Degrees by 1 degree, Calories increases by 30. Therefore if you drop degrees by 10, calories increases by 300.)

Since you have two points (the two I gave above), you can write an equation.

Slope = (3030 - 3000) / (20 - 21) = 30 / (-1) = -30

Using point-slope form:

y - 3000 = (-30)(x - 21)

y - 3000 = -30x + 630

y = -30x + 3630

b)

Remember temperature is X, Calories is Y.

So...

Sahara = 50 Degrees

so, x = 50

Plug that into the equation from part a.

y = -30(50) + 3630

y = -1500 + 3630 = 2130

Antartica = -50 degrees

so, x = -50

You can work this one out to find y. (Just like the Sahara example I did.)

c)

If you want to use NO CALORIES, that means y = 0

so...

0 = -30x + 3630

solve for x.
Reply:a) as we know that for each drop of 1 degree we use up 30 calories more, we can say it's a linear variation as the drop is constant/uniform. i.e. for every drop of 1 degree, we use up 30 calories more. Its always the same.

a linear equation is given by the formula y = mx + c. y and x are variables that you wll plot on a graph. m (the gradient) and c (the intercept) can be calculated.

M is [change in y value] / [change in x value[. If we take degrees as x and calories as y, for every 1 degree drop we use up 30 calories more:

so: change in y will be +30 calories, and change in x would be -1 degree.

So m (gradient) would be +30/-1

which is = -30

So the slope will be negative sloping downwards from left to right.

C is the intercept, i.e. the point at which the line cuts the y axis (i.e. where x = 0)

we know that m = - 30.

we also know that at 21 degrees, a person uses 3000 calories. So at this temperature, x =21, y=3000

subsituting in our y=mx+c equation:

3000 = (- 30 * 21) + c

therefore c = 3000 + (30 *21)

c= 3630

So the equation for this linear relationship would be/;

y = - 30x + 3630

where y refers to calories and x to temperature.

Just substitute values into this equation to answer the rest of the questions.

(for (b) substitute 50 %26amp; -50 respectively for the x value

for (c) substitute '0' for y value)

I like this guy but he's older..?

im in 8th grade and i started like him when i was in 7th. he's 2 years older than me so now he's in 10th, and i really like him!i talk to msn but he's rarely on, and we have exchanged barely any words in person. i go to tutoring with him at a place near my school, and i sometimes c him there....i dont know what to do!!

I would suggest contacting the colleges. I'm sure they have seen this sort of thing before and if you explain your situation maybe they would have the answer... Until then, keep giving physics your best shot. Good luck!
Reply:try dropping a class you don't really need, and spend the extra time with the physics class. if you're in any activities, try dropping one of those, too. Also try talking to your guidance counselor, that's what they're there for!!!

This is my first year of High School and i feel like i am doing not so great ?

This is my first year of high school and like i really try hard and everytime i think i do fine i either get a c or a d but in p.e. which i already passed for the ninth grade i get a A but still in other classes i get c's or i get a d which im upset because i in middle school i got straight b's like my whole 8th grade year a few c's but still i got like nothin but b's in all my classes and made honor roll this uear no honor roll for me i feel very sad deep inside so what should i do ? because i go to tutoring sometimes when i need the help and i guess my answer is to go to tutoring more any ideas if so thanks because i only have like 1 semester left and and the third semester is over in like 5 or 6 weeks.

This is my first year of High School and i feel like i am doing not so great ?
ask your teacher for making up work, or extra credit work you can do.

but look at the bright side your atleast passing.
Reply:freshmen year sucks. soph is better. just do ur best.
Reply:get some tutoring help and practice a little each night, then you wont get such bad marks.. also, spend a little bit of every night doing assignments so that when you hand it up a week later its perfect, instead of doing it the night before like so many people do

also, dont forget, academics isnt everything.

Law of Cosines - Homework Check?

I've been having problems with the Sin, Cos, and Tan problems we've just received. I think I get them, and it turns out they're wrong. I was wondering if someone could check to make sure I've gotten the right answers: my grade really needs the boost. (answers will be in |x|brackets. %26lt; means angle. d means degrees.)

The Law of Cosine is used for these:

1. j=9.6, l=1.7, %26lt;K=43. find side k. |k=8.4|

2. m=17, n=23, q=25. find %26lt;Q |%26lt;Q=75.7 d|

3. m=23, n=30.1, q=42. find %26lt;Q |%26lt;Q=103.7 d|

4. Find line c, %26lt;A, and %26lt;B

a=6, b=19, %26lt;C=38

|c=14.7, %26lt;A=14 d, %26lt;B= 128 d|

5. Find line c, %26lt;A, and %26lt;B

a=15.5, b=18, and %26lt;C=72

|c=19.8, %26lt;A=48 d, %26lt;B=60 d|

This one can use either Law of Sine or Law of Cosine.

6. Find all the missing sides/angles

%26lt;F=54, f=12.5, g=11

I used Law of Sine and got

|%26lt;G=44 d, %26lt;H= 82 d, h=15.6|

Back to Law of Cos

7. c=76, b=85, %26lt;A=80. Find side a.

|a=104|

8. %26lt;S=43, t=37, u=20. Find side s.

|s=26.2|

That's all there is.

And I will be going to tutoring tomorrow.

Law of Cosines - Homework Check?
1) - correct

2) - correct

3) - correct

4) - I make A slightly closer to 15° (14.51°) and hence B to 127°. Likely just a rounding issue.

5) - correct

6) - I get %26lt;G = 45° (45.4° to 1 d.p.), %26lt;H = 81° and h = 15.2. Did you round off sin 54° to only a couple of decimal places and then use the rounded-off value in your calculations? You should always use 1-2 more significant figures in the intermediate calculations than you want in the final figure.

7) - correct

8) - correct

Looks like you've got it taped! Just don't round your calculations too early and you'll be fine.

Community college student failing can you help?

Ok i am currently a community college student and have been attending for about 3-4 semesters and i can't seem to pass any of my classes. i graduated high school early at the age of 16 with a 3.5 GPA then i went to college, i am now 18yrs and have only passed about two classes out of numerous classes taken. i am majoring in psychology and want to become a clinical psychologist i am trying to get my general studies done then transfer to a 4yr university, (APU) i have tried many tutors, help from my professors, counselors, friends, family, boyfriend,e.t.c and nothing has worked. i am desperate. i am now on a level 2 probation because for two semesters in a row i have not passed my classes. i really do understand the material but i suffer from severe test anxiety %26amp; since most my grades are based off of test (especially mid-term and finals) i am unable to pass my classes.since college my anxiety has gotten worse. this is the worst it has ever been %26amp; im afriad its going to cost me my career

Community college student failing can you help?
It's probably time for you to talk to a school counselor or a mental health profession to help you with your text anxiety before it gets any worse.

I have test anxiety on most test I take in college even though I didn't have the same anxieties in high school. I finally said to myself that I will try to do the best I can on the tests and whatever I get I get just as long as I have studied for the test. And that lifted a lot of the burden and pressure I put on myself that gave me all my test anxiety and made me lock up on my tests.

But in your case, it seems to be a little more severe and I would suggest go seeing someone about your test anxiety. Don't be ashamed, a lot of smart people have this affliction.

Also scale back on your classes, you might be trying to do too much, too fast. Try only taking one or two classes, then work your way up from that after you got a few under your belt.
Reply:since you graduated high school early and therefore have more time to spend at college, i'd suggest taking fewer classes at once. generally, it's easier to concentrate and study for one of two classes rather than four or five.

if you manage to take and do well in two classes a semester as opposed to taking four and failing two, you'll finish with the same number of credits and a whole lot less anxiety.
Reply:if this is a real problem, consider going to a different school where the test is not a major part of the grading curriculum.

if this is a real problem, you may need to seek psych help.

also, if you REALLY understand the material, you should have nothing to be worried about.
Reply:If test taking creates so much anxiety, and adversly affets your health to such a degree you should consider other options.

Doesn't sound like college is for you.

I need some help?

I have been tutoring a girl for about a week, no charge just b/c she wanted me to help her out, and now I find myself attracted to her. How can I convey my interest without making her feel uneasy?

I need some help?
*sigh* i told my other friend this. give her "the look" i've found in my few years here on this planet that some guys who attempt "the look" make it look like.."hey babe wanna go hop on bed?" but u dont wanna do that! give her a sweet and sensitive half-smile. try your hardest not to make the look look like some of those pervs who attempt it too. lol =) (by the way when using the look and using it properly...it DOES work...hee hee...thats how my bf got me!) lol good luck!

Are my school grades bad?

im in 5th grade and my teacher is a crazy math freak who tells us to shut up and even told a kid who asked for help from her to listen more so you will have a slighter chance of failing college slower my grades are A B C The C is in math she doesn't make sense in math and tutors suck if its a college student My family can't afford sullvian Oh and her favorite student Braden got to skip lessons so he could program and install software for her and he doesn't even know about computers cus i asked him if he did and he said a little

Are my school grades bad?
I don't think your school grades are that bad. At least, you do your best. I feel bad for you for having a bad math teacher. i am in Junior High, and i deal with the same problem with you. Sometimes, teachers can be very tough and the whole class doesn't like them.

But, Do you still want to get a better grade?

So you and I must deal with them, and do their flavor in order to get a better grade.

Now, after a month's work for my science teacher that everybody hate, i got a 98 for her. pretty good huh?
Reply:They look reasonable dont let one grade bring you down. Its too early too be worrying about getting a C , atleast your not getting Ds.
Reply:Its too early to worry about your grades for high school.Having a good maths teacher makes it easier to learn maths. There are lots of maths sites on the internet you can go to for practice and revision.Maybe Braden good at Maths but not with computers. You are probably good at something like in the arts field. As for the teacher perhaps the kids are noisy. We only hear the one version from kids, never the the side of the teachers.
Reply:grades dont even count until [for most high schools/colleges] sophmore year.

i wouldnt even worry about a bad 5th grade teacher
Reply:The A and B sound really great! The C could probably be brought up. Have you been able to figure out what topics are challenging you the most in math? Is it probability, fractions, fact fluency, other stuff? If you went to Sylvan or another tutorial place they would identify that first, then find some practice sheets to help you master your harder areas. So you can do that yourself...figure out what you need to work on, find a friend or someone who's good at it and ask them to help explain it to you. Then PRACTICE it a lot on you're own. Since you have a mean teacher who really is beating you down, don't let yourself be a victim or let your math year be ruined. Stay up with the class by taking charge of your own education. Hang in there. Success is the best revenge. :)
Reply:If you're in 5th grade and your grades are A's, B's and C's, don't worry about them, you're fine. For one thing, college admissions counselors don't even pay attention to any grades before high school.

As far as the kid who she told to shut up and listen more...is this really a kid who didn't listen, or was the teacher being out of line?

If you are learning the material, that's the main thing. There are also websites you can go to for homework help...in fact, I see lots of people on Yahoo! Answers asking for help with homework.

Speak to your counselor at school, tell him or her about your frustrations. It's very likely that he or she has some ideas on how you could get some help that won't cost you or your family any money. The fact that you are seeking help is a pretty good sign that you really care about your schoolwork, and that should impress your counselor.

Sad to say, but there will be people in your life who you can't stand but you have to deal with anyway. Bear in mind that it's already February. Spring break will be here soon and before you know it the school year will be over and you won't have to deal with this teacher any more!

Teachers..HELP! Should i take pre-calculus my senior year to get into UC's even though i may not do well?

I have a 3.9 overall GPA %26amp; I've gotten A's and B's throughout my high school career--EXCEPT in math. The trend is the first semester I get a C, but the second semester I get a D. I've had tutors every year, %26amp; I try to study as much as possible but it hasnt yielded good grades in math. I've always done summer school and aced the math class I had to make up.

I took Geometry Honors in 9th grade, Algebra 2 in 10th, and then I talked to my counselor and she said I could skip math junior year to make my GPA higher. I took a College Algebra class at community college but i got a D. So I'm not going to report that grade. Now I have to decide if i should take Pre-Calc now in order to into UC's because they say 3 years are required. However, this may bring my GPA down, and it will be difficult to do well considering I have 5 AP classes!

Basically what I'm asking is--should i take the class even though i may risk getting a C or D, or should i not take it?

any advice?!

Teachers..HELP! Should i take pre-calculus my senior year to get into UC's even though i may not do well?
I say take it, and also readjust your attitude towards it. You're already thinking you will be a failure at math, and so of course you won't do well. I'm terrible at math, but forged ahead with Pre-Cal my senior year in HS (many years ago) and made a 99 every six weeks. I paid strict attention in class, took careful notes, and came in for tutoring as often as I could. You just have to WANT to succeed as opposed to saying, "Well, I know I'm going to do horribly, so why bother?" Know that you CAN do well -- you're no dummy, obviously, you just need to have more confidence in your abilities.
Reply:You could try not being a retard in math. That would probably help. C'mon, Geometry was the third easiest class I've ever taken (next to Chemistry and World Geography). Just make sure you understand radians and memorize the trigonometric relationships. Oh, and quit being a retard. If you can't do that, then go to some retard college.
Reply:That really is tough to answer. You don't want your GPA to go to down, but you also don't want to spend a fortune taking the class in college. I think you should go ahead and take Pre-Cal and just try your best. I wish I had taken it in high school, would have saved me a few hundred bucks at Community College.
Reply:You sound you must have already taken Algebra 1 in an Eighth grade Honors Class. I know at my school I have credit for four maths: (8th) Algebra 1Honors, (9th) Geometry Honors, (10th) Algebra 2, (11th) PreCalculus Honors. What I am saying is it seems that you already have your three maths: your eighth grade Honors Algebra, Geometry Honors and Algebra 2. Unless your school didn't make you take an Algebra 1, which appears off. Luck concerning this. I am a senior this year as well.
Reply:if you won't do well then don't take it. you can take Math Analysis instead or in college you can take what we call the "retard math" it really is just basic math like algebra and stuff like that. It helps you get ready to take Pre-cal and stuff like that. if you haven't had algebra 2 then you will not be able to take pre-cal because it is a required class. I am taking pre-cal now and I am glad that I waited untill after I got out of math analysis to take it. I know more than most of the people do that didn't take M.A. and most people fail without taking M.A. first. or at least most of my friends did. Best of luck to you and I hope that you can decide on what to do.

Got into NYU today but......(please help)?

so right now im extremely happy cuz i just got the acceptance package to Nyu. When i applied i had a 3.7 uw flat. Right now im tryin hard in my senior year but struggling harshly in AP calc. I stay after skool pretty much every single to ask help w/ hw and i also get tutored 2 times a week. and yet i have a C in that class. I got all As and 2 b+ in the other classes. Will this make NYU think about my acceptance once more? What should i do

Got into NYU today but......(please help)?
Congratulations first off...A friend of mine applied to NYU, but he refuses to "admit" that he finds out if he got in today or not

You did early action or early decision....correct? That means that you have to go...no matter what. You signed the papers, and if you dont go, then you shall get a HUGE fine for not going.

NYU would not consider turning you away because of a C in an AP class, especially a math. However, say you got straight C's, you dropped all of your AP classes, and you only took like 3 classes as a Senior, then they would probably reject you.

If the C is stressing you out...relax.

Once again, congratulations.
Reply:Generally, unless all of your grades slip after being accepted, colleges will be fine with that. They just don't want to see that you're slacking off. You'll be fine, I think.
Reply:I don't think you have anything to worry about. Schools don't really have a reason to worry unless you're obviously slacking, or doing things that would look badly on them if they accepted you (ie-being arrested or driving drunk or something).

If you're really not sure how they'll see your slight dip in grades (which is pretty normal for senior year, especially after being admitted), I would talk to your guidance counselor and see if they think its a good idea to let the school know how you're doing.

Congratulations, and good luck with the rest of your senior year!
Reply:Technically, they do have the power to revoke your admission if your grades fall below their expectations/go a lot lower than what they were when you were admitted. What they often do (or at least what my college did) is send you a letter asking you to explain why your grade(s) dropped. If you have a good reason (or can come up with a good one), then you're fine. Just respond promptly and well to their inquiry and you should be okay.

Congrats, by the way!

Babtsitting help!?

ok i'm desperate for money and this summer is the only time i have a chance to babysit and get some so:

i plan on babysitting and tutoring kids up to the grade of 4/3 b/c i have a lot of workbooks for those grades.

my quesitons:

1. how much should i charge for the babysitting alone for 1 hour and the babysitting will include snacks and movie and other entertainment LOL

2. how much should i charge for babysitting/tutoring per hour?

3. what activities should i plan to keep them entertained?

thanx for the help ♥☺

Babtsitting help!?
$3-$5 for just babysitting

$5-$7 for baby sitting and tutoring

well when your not tutoring them:

play board games,

play outside,

basketball,

soccer,

paint,

barbies/ GI joes (they still have those i think)

legos

TV.
Reply:1. Depends how many kids. For one kid charge maybe $15 per hour??

2. Maybe $10-15 an hour. Just find a resonable price for the kid's parents %26amp; something that would help you out : )

3. For tutoring well that's obvious. Since it's over the summer, maybe watch movies, play outside (hide %26amp; seek, tag, playground) And maybe for a treat (if you can) bring them to the pool.

*If you are old enough to drive then since the gas price is expensive, charge a little bit more for the babysitting/tutoring.

Good luck!!!

Legitimate Work at Home Ideas for a Stay-At-Home Mom?

I have an AA, and AS, a BS in Elem Ed in Lang Arts, a MS in Ed in C %26amp; I, a NM Teaching License, and experience in volunteering, tutoring, and substituting at the public schools. I am more than willing to work outside the field of education; however, I do not want to have to pay someone for a job or have my time wasted for mere pennies. I just want to stay at home with my young children until they are in school while supplementing my husband's income so we can pay our bills. Any ideas would definately be considered and much appreciated. Thanks!

If you plan on doing this type of work I urge you to investigate it thoroughly before you get into it. Many are scams. For example, if they require money up front it is a scam. This site gives you the advantages and disadvantages of telecommuting or working at home.

Reply:I’m a stay at home mom of two little girls under the age of 2. I work about 15 hours per week for a National Medical Benefits Company. I have been with the company for only 4 months and am now making over $2000 a month! I started off making about $400 my first month, $800 my second and now I am up over $2000. With this company you do make residual income so your income increased each month! Also if I continue on as I am going at the end of the year I will be making $5000 a month. My friend Becky started 2 years before me. She is now making $95,000 a year.

The best part is they have 401(k), direct deposit and a benefits package. In addition, there are no products, no selling, no cold calling and no telemarketing!

I absolutely love working with them and I can't believe I am making what I am making and in so few hours per week. The neat thing is there are other people on your team that you work with so you are never alone. The support is great but I have made wonderful friends as well. I think that’s important too!

I was scared at first because I know a lot of companies are not legit but this company is the number one National Medical Benefits Company in the US. They are a member of the US Chamber of Commerce. Also they were featured in “The New York Times”, “Wall Street Journal” and the “American Medical Review”. Even “60 Minutes” did a big special on them! Even more then all this is they are accepted at over 100,000 retailers nation wide. These are fortune 500 companies like Sears, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Wal-mart and more. These companies would never work with a company that was any thing less then reputable. That made me feel very good about working with them!

I just felt very safe with them…. that and my friend was already making so much money with them!

Check them out! Just type in www.workathomeplus.net in your web browser.

Reply:Here are my suggestions on finding a legitimate opportunity that's right for YOU:

- Set your financial goals -- Are you just looking for extra income or a potential full-time income? How long (and hard) are you willing to work to meet your goal?

- Determine if you are looking for a JOB or a BUSINESS -- there is a distinct difference between the two and you want to focus your energies appropriately for the best results.

- If looking for a JOB, what are your marketable skills and previous experiences? If you are looking for a BUSINESS, go with your passions, things that interest and motivate you the most. Build a list and use that to begin your search. General rule of thumb: Never pay for a job (businesses, on the other hand, usually involve some expenses).

- Review your budget -- know ahead of time what you are willing and able to invest into your business, including start-up costs and ongoing maintenance and promotion.

- Find a rep to contact, check out their websites, ask questions, do your own independent research.

- I personally also check out a company's status and consumer feedback on www.bbb.org and www.ripoffreport.com

Hope this info helps get you started. Best wishes!

Reply:Do you like to write. Because it sounds like you are very knowledgeable on a lot of topic and Associated Content is a great place to work. You get paid for each article you write and you can write on whatever you want.

There are a lot of people who make a living just working for AC. I only use it part time at the moment until my kids are back in school full day Sept. But I make good money there. They pay through Paypal with in 2 days of when your article is accepted which usually takes 5 days from the day you submit it. So basically you get paid 1 week after you write the article. You can submit as many articles in one day as you want.

Fight w/ my "fiancee"...was I wrong?

We’ve been together 4 ½ years, lived together for a 1 ½ years and got engaged last week. Ok, he wakes up in a bad mood almost every morning and I am sick of it. He was pissy so I let him be. I made little casual comments, tried to make little jokes and he just sits there with little one word answers or pissy comments. I'm very aware of non-verbal communication and it hurts me to live with this kind of tension. (this is not a new thing) I can't ignore him because we live in a small apartment and there is really no way to get away from his negative energy. I love him very much but this tension can drive me insane b/c it always escalates into a fight unless him or I just leave to do something else (school/work). Sure enough, he finally made a comment to indicate his irritation (although, he will deny up and down that he is in a bad mood). He called me a lazy, worthless b****. Mind you, I was doing nothing except telling him not to use our fish tank bucket for chemicals, b/c we can use the spare trash can. (Putting chemicals in a fish bucket and then using it to change the water in the fish tank could kill them very easily). So, I took my engagement ring off and threw it at him. I couldn’t stand having it on my finger at that time b/c I felt chained to him…a man that hurts me so much. He accuses me of that probably 2-3 times a week minimum, b/c I don’t choose to work as much as him and I am in nursing school full-time (most of the girls who go don’t even work in the first place b/c of the time-consuming nature of nursing school). When we moved out, he knew the situation and he rubs it in my face all the time. I was very hesitant to move in w/ him b/c of this, I knew he would be footing most of the bills and so did he. He still wanted to do it, I had a good arrangement living w/ my mom. He wants me to be like his mom and cook and clean 24/7...I find other things in life more important. I’m not like her in that way and he knew I wasn’t. I keep the kitchen clean and do some stuff around the house but I am not obsessive about cleaning like he is. I don’t live in filth or anything, but he sees messes that I just can’t see. I’ve been spending 9hrs a day for the past week tutoring a friend who may fail out of nursing school b/c I felt it was the right thing to do, and I haven’t been able to clean like he wants. He even encouraged me to do this for her. Well, I asked for the ring back about 5 mins. later (even though he was still being a jerk) and he refused to give it to me. He then left for work. It really hurts me when he says those things and I know I may have over-reacted throwing it at him, but I just felt so tethered to him when he was hurting me while I had that ring on…it was weird. I looked at it and it made me feel nauseous. So, I’m taking my dog and packing up some stuff to go to my mom’s for the weekend (at least). Am I wrong? He will inevitably call me like he always does and beg me to come back, say he’s wrong like always…but….I’m sick of it. Does that nauseous feeling I felt when looking at the ring at the time mean anything? Did I over-react way too much? Am I completely wrong? Is this common for newly engaged women to feel burdened by the weight of the commitment? I’m a product of a divorce, so marriage does not appeal to me like it does him, it scares me. My childhood was tumultuous b/c of it. I do love him, but I’m just scared I guess. There are lots of other good qualities but his negative attitude is just eating away at me and overwhelming all of his good stuff. Sorry this is so long, but I have to get this out. Thanks for all your advice.

Fight w/ my "fiancee"...was I wrong?
Its sounds like you may care for the guy but you really want out of the relationship or at least be separated , go back and live with you mom if you can

good luck
Reply:I feel for you. I go through the same thing with my husband. He thinks he can get into his little moods whenever he wants as if hes sitting on a throne or something! No, but if its me, Im either cheating or something else is wrong. These kind of men are spoiled brats and are used to getting their way. They need someone who isnt gonna tolerate their sh*t! They dont deserve nice girls like us who put up with it. They need to literally be put in their place! Sweetie, I can tell you if you dont wanna live in misery with this guy your whole life, leave now!! I have been with my husband for 14 yrs and he has never changed and I know he never will. Hes just one of them guys. Its too late for me. We have 3 kids together whom I could never rip their hearts by leaving him now. Dont get stuck in my situation.
Reply:Well, chicky--don't you dare put that ring back on! Sounds like your man is slightly passive aggressive--says one thing, but does another. He'll say what you want to hear and go along with everything, but secretely resent you for it. I'm married to a man like that myself, and let me tell you--it SUCKS. He walks around in this pissy little mood all the time but he'll say everything's fine (even when it's obviously not.) Then he'll blow up over something little and it will escalate into this massive argument over much larger issues.

And hey--no one deserves to be called names like that. Your man may also have abusive tendancies. Before you marry him (if that's still what you're bent on doing), you should really consider couples counselling.
Reply:Part of the issue is that even though you got engaged last week, you two have been together for so long that you have probably already talked about marriage and just recently made it official, so it's finally "for real" and you (plural) are now having to take the relationship very seriously. It feels suffocating to both and you are going to react more intensely to all those little things which sort of bothered you before but you kept beneath the surface.

In a word, the answer is counseling. Marriage is a serious thing and should be approached that way. If you two can sit down with someone, maybe you can reason out if you should get married (side note: being together so long, especially living together, is marriage just a piece of paper to make official what you're already doing?) and the areas you need to work on, deal with, or adjust to.
Reply:Okay, he is like this every morning and he thinks it's okay to call you foul names? Do you really want to spend the rest of your life this way? Keep in mind that it will not get better, only worse as time goes on. Maybe you might want to think about ending this before you actually get married.
Reply:Too much to read. Im just curious as to why you think this guy is a good match? Pathetically obvious to me that he isn't.
Reply:well you don't need someone treating you like that. You need to focus on your studies and get your life started. Yah he may love you and you may love him. But love blinds people to the TRUTH. Make a list of all the good things he has done for you. I mean just you mentioning the fact that you asked for the ring back and he didn't give you it beg gives me the impression that you are in the tips of his fingers He can control you anytime he wants. Maybe that's why he gets mad at you and treats you like crap because he know that you "love" him and would never leave him. Be in control of the relationship and do not let no one step on you.
Reply:I"m not sure but it sounds like he is a person who needs to be left alone in the morning. You sound like you are very chatty in the morning. His choice of words when he is aggravated is not acceptable though. Maybe you two should slow down and make sure you can make a go of this relationship. You can love someone but can't live with them so it's important that you are very sure.
Reply:There are a lot on replies on this, so I will just give you my take on it. DO NOT marry this man, my ex-husband was like this and you will just be miserable. There is no reason to tolerate his name calling. My ex berated me for staying home after our kid was born, even though he agreed it was the best thing to do. GET OUT.
Reply:leave him, throw him out tell him to either grow up,get lost, you need to leave him, you can do better than this, this is not the norm, can you imagine being with him for the next thirty odd years?????????
Reply:if you to can get a counselor you would work things out perfectly.being in marriage is like a rollercoaster you go up then you fall down.
Reply:im sure you feel better for ranting and getting it all off your chest as we all would. knowing you have more or less signed the 'marriage' agreement and seeing things deteriorate before your eyes before you have even walked down the isle is something i feel many people do,,you agree to marry the good side of the person but keep on finding the bad side crops up all the time and you are not sure if it is actually 'that' person you will end up living with. truth be known you and he have to battle out your issues because you both have them,,he has to want to marry YOU not someone he is trying to turn you into and vise versa, acknowledging you are scared is something he needs to understand because there is no turning back after the 'i do,s' while at the same time he needs to acknowledge sometimes his behavior and attitude is effecting the way you feel about him,,you both have choices from you not picking at him as soon as he gets up out of bed knowing he is always in a foul mood,to him not thinking that talking to you in a manner or disrespect will make you comply with his wishes.....you have nothing to lose by telling him exactly what you are think and hopefully he will do the same.if you both really want this relationship to work then you both have to admit you could be happier with just a little effort and compromise.
Reply:Hey girl. Im engaged to getting married this fall so I hear ya about the big commitment thing. Honestly, after reading this the first thing that came to mind was...God please do not let them get married! Im not saying that because it could never work, but Im just such a big stickler about disrespect with my fiance. Thats a big thing with us and if we see eachother getting like that we say: "settle down there pal...and lose the attitude." I really feel like if you lose that respect then it's really hard to get back if you ever can, and from experience, can later lead to so much hate and anger that it can turn violent. If I were you, I would let him have the ring back for now. Im not sure how much you've planned yet, but dont make any more wedding plans just yet. I would see if you can move back to your Mom's to clear your head. Talk with everyone around you that you trust and that really loves you and ask for their honest opinion about the situation....many times people can see success or disaster a lot better from an outside view. Follow your heart. Think about it sweetie....being engaged and planning the wedding of your dreams is supposed to be the best and most exciting time of your life. If it isn't I would seriously re-consider this emotional and very legal commitment. You sound like you have your head on your shoulders and have a lot going for you. Dont let anyone cut you down and bring negativity into your life and destroy your spirit.

Best of luck to you =)

What should i do ......?

my son is in 2nd grade ,tutors on wed ,thur w/ his teacher .the tutoring goes on from 230-300.well wed,i get there talk 2 couple people like i always do .my daughter and i start 2 walk 2 my son class 2 c how he is......well my daughter yells MOM MY BROTHERS NOT THERE.so i get 2 the class room and c his teacher w/another person and 2 of her other tutoring students.i said excuse me (she does'nt answer)she looking stright at me but nada...ok.well one of her students tell me well he left ...he left (i said) boy say's yes .teacher decides 2 jump in this converstion and say yes he left ....y i ask her ..y did u let him go( i said?)SHE YELLS AT ME SAY WELL MRS.***** what do u want me 2 tell you !!did'nt he know to stay 4 his tutoring....she say's well mike ask if he was going 2 stay ..MIKE !what do u mean mike he;s seven yrs old and your the teacher not this l'il boy she's yelling dont blame me dont blame me!!in front of her student i said 2 her i will not do this in front of these student .

What should i do ......?
You need to know exactly what the agreed conditions are for the tutoring period. The best way is to ask the principal without making any accusation about the teacher. i would not be happy about what she did but unless you know what the official rules for the teacher and the kids are you should step easy and not cause trouble needlessly. you did right not to continue to argue in front of others but this needs an official resolution so you can tell your son what the rules are.

Reply:first thing you should do is realise numbers do not compensate for words. to is a word and is too. but 2 is a number. I can deal with spelling mistakes as long as they are not too bad but do you realise how hard it is to read your question?

in answer. It is easy...GO SEE THE PRINCIPAL. That is why they are there. The teacher is in the wrong and her yelling at you tells me she knows it.
Reply:WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!
Reply:I would contact the principal for 2 reasons. 1) there may be another and possibly more qualified tutor for you child or at least one who will not let your young son run off alone. 2) she needs to know that this teacher is being that way. She shouldn't be yelling in front of students its intimidating and doesn't help them learn appropriate public behavior.
Reply:Well, you should tell the head of the school about the tutoring. You should not let him go to the tutoring again if they are going to let him leave. She acted extermely rude. Its your child and you trusted your child with her. You should tutor your child at your home or find a tutor to come to your home if you have the money to do so. That was horrible to do especcially to a parent.
Reply:I think you should stop pretending and do your homework
Reply:You need to go to her boss NOW and report her! She has endangered your child. What she did was terrible. She should not have acted like that in front of other students. Also, insist they give your son a different teacher for a tutor. Do not let them sweep this under the rug or give excuses. Keep calling every day if you have to until you get an answer that is suitable.
Reply:Regardless of the circumstances surrounding this issue, the teacher had no right to disrespect you or talk to you in any way that was meant to belittle you. She should definitely be reported to the principal for allowing your second grade son to leave when she was aware that he was to stay after school. If the principal refuses to take action, I would go to his/her higher-up, perhaps the school district office. Child safety is so important and it should be taken seriously. I would also definitely tell the principal that I did not appreciate the way the teacher spoke to me and he/she should make sure that it never happens again.
Reply:yo, go back and whoop her and the tutor's a**!

I have 1 essay ..http://thugian123.com/essay01.... I got 10 out of 15 .Help me to estimate wat wrong wit it?
Inside, every person keeps their best experience and most memorable time of their life. My memory is not as good as that of a genius or a smart person but I still remember the time before taking an exam in 9th grade. It is such a beautiful and priceless memory in my life.

Teachers are the ones who are most worried about the future of their students, because students achievements are a reflection of their achievement as a teacher. The teachers had to prepare the practical examination sheet for student. They wanted to make sure that everyone understood the problem and gave the students random quizzes. That was a hard time, because the students had to take notes and study by themselves, otherwise, they would not be able to catch up the lesson and the guide from our teacher. Mostly our teacher would mark the student’s questions and ask them to do their homework after class or give feedback to wrong answers. Moreover, if they had the serious problem such as not listening to the teacher or playing around during class our teacher might ask them stay longer in the classroom for the extra workshop. For example, when we finished the class at 5 pm instead of going home they had to stay in the teachers’ office until 7 pm for studying and preparing the homework for tomorrow. That was the best way to help them because our teacher stayed there to assist them. For some reason, the school environment really got them focused on the lesson. Their parents agreed with our teacher that this was an excellent learning method. Beside that, our teacher had to check the homework on the black board or call each individual to correct another persons’ worksheet. More important was the announcement of the deadline to submit the project. Every single day we had to check the attendance and learn the theory carefully. At the weekend, students would have the group study at their home or their friends‘s home to prepare the assignment. This was the best way to improve you for the rest of the time after school. In the group study‘s time, we could discuss the problems that we did not know the solution to and learn tactics to make it more clear. If we encountered any problems in the exercise, we could call our teacher or go directly to their house for further assistance. Furthermore, our teachers usually had a meeting to estimate each class’s performance and give advice to improve it. They often argued about the choice of who was the best student to give them an award, because our teacher had a different opinion on this than the others. However, the methods that they applied to each student were really effective and professional. That explained why my class passed 100 % of the final examination. After that, we had a small celebration at a restaurant with traditional food, such as fish soup cooked with peppermint, which is really good for the digestive system and we received congratulations from them. When we were out at the restaurant everyone looked completely different to how they looked at school, I felt that they were more like my best friends instead of teachers. In summary, our teachers are the best guides and instructors to show us how to reach the highest success as a student and in life.

Students do not have time to think of entertainment because this is the most important time of our lives to achieve good marks and success in school in order to apply to schools such as Harvard, which has a very high quality of education. In order to make this dream a reality it is important to work hard and get good grades. Not only were the students studying at home and in groups with their friends, they also went to the learning center to revise their assignments and homework. When students were feeling sick or if they were being lazy they did not catch up to the others in the theory and exercises The students were not only studying at home or group study with their friends but also going to the learning center which was paid to revise their assignments and homework. For some reasons like lazy and sickness, they didn’t catch up the theory and exercises with other people. So they

ok i revised a bit of your essay, i would like to know which school you go to because if you are paying money for it you shouldn't, you are obviously an esl student and you have no grasp of the english language, your verb agreements are all over the place, you are using words in the wrong way, its a total mess the teacher should not have given you 1 out of 15 and the fact that he wouldn't even tell you what was wrong with it, you have a horrible uncaring teacher, good luck and get extra tutoring, speak as much english as you can to native english speakers, ask them what words mean and how to say them properly, study verbs and tenses
Reply:Are you doing English as a second language? There are really a lot of grammatical errors in your essay - and the sentences are very confusing. That's probably why he marked you down. If you have tutoring available, take it. Your tutor can go over the paper with you and help you to find your mistakes and learn how to correct them.

I applaud you for wanting to learn more about why your paper was marked down - most kids would just sulk and ignore the whole thing. You've got a very positive outlook and if you hang on to that, you're going to do much better in future.

Tell your tutor that you really need to work on your pronouns antecedents and referents, as well as agreement.
Reply:Is this essay part of your studies in English as a foreign language? If so, your teacher was right to suggest that you need tutoring. Your writing is almost incomprehensible.

Reply:i think its only because they want you to do your best and they dont want to to look back on life and say why didnt i try better at that! trust me they are only doing because they care about you!

you could try talking to them and discussing different ways that they could help you, let them know that all of this is making you really stressed and could make you ill and see where you can go from there with them

Good luck and dont worry!
Reply:yoga!
Reply:i am in the SAME EXACT SITUATION *basicaly* except i am younger than u. Take a couple of deep breaths and maybe take a nap. naps are good ways of relaxing. think calm and you will be calm. its hard to describe what i do in these situations. but you should just pretend to do yoga. i kno a little yoga and it really IS relaxing! stretch. watch a movie. and just try to free your mind of everything around you. if the SAT tutoring is in a class relax during the class. pay attention a little but also relax ur mind. i know that all my talk about relaxing ur mind probably sounds like im a psychiatrist or something but it actually works!
Reply:Ha ... i feel your pain. I’m a high school senior taking a full load of college classes. I have finals next week, 3 essays to write, a project to finish and lots of studying to do. Finals are next week and all mine seem to be only on two days. I get to cram from the next 4 days. On top of that i have to fill out the crap to graduate with honors, find a job and vehicle, get an id (my sister stole it) and be a brides maid for a wedding, within the next week, i also have SAT's coming up and a 4.0 GPA, I’m not sure because the high school is a bunch of a!%^#%@%. Yeah... i have been there with the whole mono thing. I had it last year, go to the doctor and make sure it really is mono and if they tell you it is strep tell them to make sure (if you have mono and take the medication for strep you break out in this gnarly rash ALL over you body... not fun.). Just calm down and take it easy when you can, take a bath and try to get so exercising in, helps the body relieve stress. Eat some chocolate and cool off a little. Get good night rest every night and sleep in if you can, also take naps when ever you have time even if they are only a 10 or 20 minutes. Maybe skip school tomorrow and go see a doctor... mono will wear you down fast. Start drinking orange juice, and bet your boyfriend in the head for giving you mono... good luck with everything !!!
Reply:OK! Slow your breathing down, try. I am a very hyped person too and college was really rough but yet fun, I do transcendental meditation to wind down, you have to slow your breathing down or you are going to end up with a full blown panic attack which you DO NOT WANT, it is hard to wind down and for me I had to take sleeping pills as the all nighters were killing me. Start taking a good multivitamin, well I can't tell you what to do but that is what I did to build up my immune system. You have to schedule in me time, get a hot bubble bath and relax, also working out helps but I would not suggest that right before bed as it may be too stimulating. Get the book eat, pray, love and listen to it at night or a good alpha mind cd to help you relax.
Reply:I'm still trying to figure out how to relax! Gonig to school being married and having kids is even worse...ive been where you are back in high school. I prayed HARD!! And I still do. Just getting it out in the open helps a bit too...but take some time for you...if you have the time right? haha Workingout daily helps me a great deal to relax. Maybe that could work for you. I think about it this way...it wont last forever and all the hard work will pay off.

Im going to fail in life?

Im 14 years old I suck in all the subjects in school, I get mainly C's and D's. Ive tried getting tutoring but im just not getting the hang of school my stepdad keeps telling me I was a mistake and that I shouldnt have been born and he constantly abuses me and I find myself depressed often im really afraid that im going to end up poor and a loser

Im going to fail in life?
If you want, I can help you with school. About your father... does he physical abuse you, as well? I'd advise you to find a way to get out of his care, if you can prove the abuse. You don't need to live like that. If you want somebody to talk to, feel free to contact me. I'd love to help.

Heath
Reply:Sounds like he is jealous of you because your mother loves you. Don't let him get you down. If he physically abuses you, tell your teacher or principal. Some people are better in subjects that are not taught in school at your age like plumbing, electrical, etc. They are better at doing things with their hands. Talk to your guidance counselor about this and she can get you some testing to see your aptitudes.
Reply:Not all people do good with tests and books. I got the same kind of grades as a kid as you do. I am whats called a "hands on" person. I need someone to physically show me how to do it. I also had trouble consentrating on the teachers. Try asking the teacher for more advise either during or after class. I am a home framer now because its "hands on" and it all made sence to me. There is a place for everyone in this world to work.I thought i would end up poor and a loser as well. But you are what you make yourself. And i made myself more than that. Now i own my own crew and tools. 2 trucks ect ect. You can be whatever you put your mind to. You just need to figure out where you want to be and what you want to do. :)
Reply:Oh my soul,

No wonder your grades aren't going anywhere - your step dad is giving you too much crap. Is there anyone you can talk to - mum, a family friend, another adult? - who will talk sense to your stepdad??

You know something? The BEST business people, enterpreneurs in life failed at school or dropped out. Seriously. Look at the biography of anyone famous who has a heart, and see their appalling background. Abject poverty, illiteracy - you name it.

And... there's plenty of people on here who believe in you, including me. You just haven't found a way to make school work for you, instead of the other way around.

In the eyes of the Creator - even if you don't believe in one - you are incredibly special. Unique, amazing. Funny. And caring. Just that to get to see that diamond you are, we gotta dig down under all that coal to get there (diamonds are compressed coal).

PS I got mainly Bs and Cs at school. Yet I'm a real bright spark. Go figure.
Reply:First of all, your stepdad is an asshole. Don't listen to him amd for Gods sake, don't listen to him say that you were a mistake. Whatever is making him say all of that, they are his issues not yours. He is the loser in this situation.

Secondly, just because you don't do well in school does NOT mean that you are a loser or that you will not do well in life. Keep trying, and maybe talk to a teacher that you like or trust about your schooling. They might be able to help you or give you some pointers.

Third, don't give up on yourself. You concentrate on things that you are good at and like to do. Try to enjoy life a little and don't let school get you down. Best of luck to you!
Reply:You're not going to fail life.

I'm sure it feels like it, but it's not going to happen.

Your grades are bad because your stepdad is abusing you and maybe because you're not good at academic learning.

Start by dealing with the problem with your stepdad. Either talk to a counsellor or go to him directly and tell him how you feel.

After that you will be more able to focus on your schoolwork and your grades will improve.

You can fix this and I wish you the best of luck. :)
Reply:dude pull yourself together and talk about this to your school counclers, principle or a friend or a teacher

Am I being to tough on my middle school daughter ?

My daughter is a very good student. She is on the on honor roll and has had all A's except for math. I was never good at math either. She's had a B-, and two C's in math so far this year. As a 5th grader she was priviledged to be invited to be on the yearbook committee next year ( which is a big honor usually reserved for 6th and 7th graders) which means she would have an "A" period and have to be at school at 7:45 instead of 8:40. I got a letter today saying that if she would like additional math help next year she could either take the math tutor class as an elective, which means she would lose Spanish which she really wants to take...or take it as an "A" period...which would mean that she would lose the yearbook thing...which she also really wants. I told her if she brings her math grade up to a B she can keep yearbook, otherwise she has to choose between Spanish and Yearbook.

She thinks I'm the meanest mom in the world. I just want her to be prepared for college.

Am I being to tough on my middle school daughter ?
Its great that you are such a concerned parent and actually take a personal involvement in your childs education. Not a lot of parents care that much, they figure a C is a passing grade and let little Johnny/Susie do as they please. I think at the particular grade level that your daughter is at (5th grade I think you said) is still quite a bit young for added scholastic pressure. Its good that you are preparing her for the adult world and what she will face when in college, but face it...college is 7 years away. Let her know that if Yearbook is what she really wants to do, then she can always take spanish class next year. If you cut her out of her interests, then her interest in school and learning will diminish and she will burn out quickly. Sit her down and openly give her advice. Help her to build a two or three year plan. Put together mock schedules and go over her choices of electives. Help her choose but at the same time do not chastise or belittle her if she opts for something out of the ordinary. Kids want to be unique and explore new things. I say if yearbook is important to her then help her to decide to take spanish another year and get that extra help in math. Good luck.
Reply:Excellent move!

When she gets into a good college and graduates- she won't even remember their year book in the 5th grade, only that her mom loved her enough to be hated for a while.

A year book (especially in the fifth grade) is nonsense-how often does anyone actually look at their HSYB? An education will be put to better use for much longer than a 5th grade year book.
Reply:I'd have her skip Spanish and do the yearbook. She's not going to get middle or high school credit for it (atleast nothing that will count towards graduation) so she might as well take it next year. Yearbook committee is an honor.
Reply:Math is 10 times more important that Spanish. She can take Spanish in High School. If she gets behind in Math, it is very hard to catch up.
Reply:You sound reasonable to me.
Reply:She makes good grades...maybe you should let her decide...
Reply:let her decide!!
Reply:ur not being hard on her
Reply:I don't think you're being too hard on her, I'm a teen...I think you've just showed her her options and there's nothing you can do about the school's guidelines in offereing stuff to her. If she's aggregratign A's great! I think you've done a great job with her...let her choose what she wants though.. masybe sit down and talk 2 her about this...I think you're a fine mum..alll kids go through periods where their parents are the worst in the world...she should feel different in a while, I think.
Reply:The modern education system indoctrinatesTthe main function of education is to instruct in Reading,Writing,

Mathematics, and how to think logically. It is not the responsibilty of the State to instruct languges, social studies, music drama, how to avoid the usage of drugs,or any of the other crap that is taught. Why would any sane parent

permit their child to be involved in any committee at this tender age,and attend school at 7:45 am? Education in the aforemention basics, need not

begin until the age of 12,when a student has had the opportunity to be a child.Your child is being prepared for

Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.
Reply:I think you're right about the math thing. When I was in fifth grade a lot of the things that my teacher taught me I didn't understand, so when I got into 6th grade I ended up with the first C I'd ever gotten in my life on my report card. You should let her keep the classes she wants, as long as she keeps her grades up. And instead of getting tutoring in school, if you're willing to pay a small fee, you can just get some outside tutoring, that way you'll both get what you want.
Reply:Prepared for college? She's only in the 5th grade!! And honestly, not every child is going to get an A or B in math, some are only going to get C's and that's not something to be punished for at all. As long as you see her doing her best, then it's fine. Now, if she's totally slacking and being lazy, and THAT's why she's not getting A's in math, then I can see your frustration. Otherwise, cut her a break. She's on the honor roll, and has A's in every other class, she deserves to be rewarded for that BIG time, and I think the yearbook would be a perfect way to do that :)
Reply:Well speaking as someone who worked her butt off just to please her parents I would like to say ease up. She's only in the 5th grade. She'll have plenty of time to get ready for college. Let her take the yearbook class. As long as she is not failing math I wouldn't worry. She can only have fun for so long. Don't be one of those parents who put their kids in an academic stranglehold. I do applaud you for caring and worrying about her future.

Possible science colleges that are good for me?

I want to look at colleges that may work for me I am interested in MIT but unfortunetly that probobly wont work. Here is my info to help: I am currently a sophomore. In my freshman year I got all A's and B's with all standard classes.

In sophomore year which is what I am in now I am taking 2 honors classes and the rest standard. So far I am pretty confident that I will have all A's in every single class. Honors chem and history are the two honors.

In junior year I am planning on taking AP Chem and am commited to getting a 5 on the exam, I am also taking APUSH, Honors algebra 2, comp science, standard english. Also on saturdays I am taking an Honors level organic chemistry course too.

For senior year I have planned AP US Govt, AP Physics C mechanics, Honors Trig/math analysis, prolly standard english and AP comp science. As for the SAT I am currently studying very hard right now for it with books/tutor. I also do a sport for this year and the next 2 years and am looking at science club

Possible science colleges that are good for me?
Here is a site for US colleges and uni's: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

Gcse maths. A* coursework....my exam?

Hi I'm doing my GCSEs in May.

I'm doing higher paper of maths, I'm in the top set.

I recently gained an A* in my two coursework pieces.

When I go into my actual exam what advantage will I already have?

Will I already be on a C or something because that is what someone told me?

Any ideas?

Cheers

Sorry I'm not sure what exam board it is.

Now I'm off to see my maths tutor ;)

Gcse maths. A* coursework....my exam?
no you wont. The two pieces of coursework are in total worth 20%. Even with full marks this wont add up to a C as a C is around 60%.

This is what the exams consist of:

Coursework 1- 10%

Coursework 2- 10%

Module 1 - 10%

Module 2 - 20%

Main exam (in May 08)- 50%

grade boundaries for overall scores are usually:

A*- 80-95%

A- 75-85%

B- 60-80%

C- 40-60%

D- 30-40%

I currently am taking my maths GCSE. In my coursework I got A*, Module 1 I got a B and Module 2 I got an A*.

Got a few months until my final exam. I hope that this helps you and it is correct as my teacher handed out a sheet with this info on.
Reply:no you wont be on a C already

but you will have a decent back up if your exam messes up
Reply:You have to still get a certain percentage in the actual exam to earn a good grade.

Even if you get good marks in the coursework, it will count for nothing if you don't turn up for the exam (Literally and metaphorically speaking)
Reply:the coursework will act as a backup, but won't gurantee any grades.
Reply:Yeh u need to do well in your exams aswell, i remmber those days, although i was in second set doing intermediate paper, I scored a B in the exam, and coursework...I smacked it...getting 8 8 8...

By the way, Doctor Drop Dead, did you manage to get a palce in Oxford yet? Man i messed my Alevels up..wish i could go to a better uni... u lucky kids..do the best you can now...
