Do i have a chance of getting into these schools?

GPA : 3.53

SAT : 660-critical reading, 600-math, 640-writing

ACT : taking it soon

SAT II's : taking it soon

AP Classes : 7

Extracurriculars : 6+ years being a teacher at a center for handicapped children, 4+ years being a VBS teacher, treasurer of Interact(Rotary) Club, NHS, NAHS, Beta Club, Discover Johns Hopkins: Brain Myths attendee, Global Youth Leadership Conference attendee, People to People: British Isles attendee, Student tutor for Junior High 3+ years, Summer counselor at camp for mentally disabled children for 3+ years...

The thing is...I didn't particularly shine throughout high school. I didn't play a sport and I made a few C's.

THE SCHOOLS: Boston University, Syracuse University (Early Decision), University of Georgia, and NYU (my reach)

Do i have a chance of getting into these schools?
Colleges look for well rounded students. With all of your other activities, I don't think sports will matter too much. Colleges also look for diversity and people who give back to the community such as yourself. I think all of these universities will be delighted to have you as their student.
Reply:Mod Def. Shoot for NYU its great.
Reply:BU - probably. Not the best scores, but they do like a good volunteer.

Syracuse - yes

University of Georgia - yes

NYU - maybe. Again, not good enough scores but you have done a lot of volunteer and leadership work.

Make sure you write a killer essay highlighting your volunteer and leadership qualities.
Reply:Georgia -- yes (especially if you are a resident).

You have stats that are like the average student accepted at Syracuse and BU. This means you have a legitimate shot. Early decision at Syracuse may be a reach -- since your stats are only average for those accepted there.

NYU is a reach -- but a possibility.
Reply:yes yes yes. You are right that NYU is a reach but you could do it. You seem to have your stuff together so you'll do well. But you could absolutely make it into any of those schools. Just make sure that you're very personable during your interview.
Reply:BU let a lot of stupid people from my school in so i think you are guaranteed shot with them

you have a shot at some but don't make those your only schools you apply to

good luck
Reply:save money, goto a community college
Reply:You should be able to get into most of the ones you're looking at.

I can tell you I sucked at HS, had a bad GPA. My SATs were flipped (math 650/reading 600), and just applied to my local 4yr college. Very easy to get into. I was talking with some people there in my sophomore year, at which point I had a 4.0 GPA, and realized that I could transfer to a really good school if I wanted to. I still have a high GPA, 3.96, but am a senior now. I did a summer research project with a professor in what essentially is a nationally recognized physics laboratory in a different state. Depending on the GRE scores, I'm pretty confident I can get into a top grad school.

My point is, if you're taking 7 AP classes, you might want to continue whatever you're majoring in to a masters or Ph.D. At this point, nobody asks where you went for undergraduate, they ask where you got your highest degree. Just like a college grad doesn't get asked what highschool they went to.
Reply:damn girl i know exactly how you are feeling. im stressing out about college applications right now too. like you, i did alot of stuff, but i wasnt the president of anything and i made a couple C's. but i have good grades and im in the IB program...

so i dont know anything about those schools, but take a deep breath and relax, im sure you'll have a great time at whatever college you go to. good luck!
