all my life i have never been good at math. my dad is great at it but i am horrible. its like a foreign language to me. i've been going to my math tutor since 6th grade and i am now in 11th. math this year has been a lot worse tho. i make 2s, 3s, and even a 1 once on a quizes that are worth 100 pts. I made a 3/100 on my last test. my teacher is no help. i've asked her to go over a hmwk prblm i didnt get and she gave me a 0 for not "completing my assignment." i have a 30 in the class now and every day when i walk in the classroom, i want to cry. my math tutor told me i dont deserve to go thro what i'm going thro. i cry every night when i get home b/c its so bad. you dont know what it's like to go in and know that its utterly hopeless. i'll have to go to summer school and i hate that. also, i can't drop the class.
Please help i'm just about to cry!!!!?
Aww sweetie don't cry. I know exactly how you feel - my dad's an engineering major, and I'm sitting here struggling through basic precalculus. He gets so pissed off when I'm not able to grasp a basic concept that I think is difficult but that he taught himself when he was 14. You don't deserve to go through what's happening right now. You should definitely talk to your principal or the head of the math department at your school about what your math teacher did - I'm sure they'll take care of it, and possible help you more. I'm so so so sorry about what you're going through right now. If it's any consolation, you can email me at itsabittersweetsymphony@yahoo.com if you need someone to talk to.
I sincerely hope you feel better soon. %26lt;3
Reply:keep studying! just review your problems until you have them memorized. Good encouragment is helpful too, ask freinds for help too.
Reply:oh snap thats not good...okay first of all do your homework, I cant stress how important this is, math is all about practising and try to UNDERSTAND, not do the steps understand whats going on. And if she really gave you a zero talk to your school counsellor see if she is any help, and if none of those work then sadly as hard as it may be talk to your dad?
Reply:Honestly, there are people who are amazing mathematicians. They are brilliant and numbers are like a piece of cake to them, obviously you're not like that, no one is saying you have to be. I know, and everyone knows what it feels like to not do good at something you try your hardest at but just don't finish, or understand. The important thing in your character is that you try.
Instead of pushing yourself about it, be calm. Eat something good for you and get lots of sleep, do not stress. When you have a meeting with your tutor, you need to be prepared, listen, if you don't get it, say it, and tell them why and ask for the clues slowly until it makes more sense. You won't grow up to always need calculus, algebra 2, 1 or geometry. It is handy to know some of it, but don't worry your life away about it. You're great for even trying, so don't cry. Keep your chin up and just stay positive because it will be over with, you just need to try and focus, obviously you should set more time aside to try to and get help, my dad told me when he was graduating school, he failed his math classes, and he didnt understand, he tried hard. But he has a great job and is about to retire, he's had a great life, just because you can't excel at one thing doesn't mean you are terrible.
IF your tutor or teacher or parents don't help, you do need to speak up and say something about it because it bothers you so, maybe you should transfer to a different tutor. Or you might have a health disorder, I am not a doctor so i don't know.. But don't be so frustrated, many people don't understand it, for some it comes naturally. Just take it easy and try your best, I mean REALLY try with your heart. I have seen people go from 0 to 80s when they do, dont be so negative because that really does change the outcome, instead of crying, say OK i got this one wrong, but that means I can get the net one right, until you do. No one is a born a genius, they learn it all and so will you! Chin up!
Reply:Oh sweetie! I HATE math because I just CAN'T get my head around it. Both my parents %26amp; my siblings were all good at math %26amp; they couldn't understand how I just didn't get it so I do know how you feel.
I also had a tutor and I HATED going once a week for one on one sessions where I STILL couldn't figure out the answers %26amp; it just made me feel even more stupid. My parents insisted I study TEE (Aust) math %26amp; I just couldn't get them to understand that even if by some fluke I passed I would never ever use that kind of math anyway.
It became a mental block for me. Even now when I'm put under pressure to answer a math question I JUST CAN'T do it!!
Maybe there is a guidance councillor at your school who you could talk to? I mean, it's not like you're not trying, it's just that your supposed "teacher" has too many students on her hands to spend specialised time with you. Your guidance councillor should be able to help by offering you some solutions: more help for a start.
Please don't cry, as someone else has said: the chances that you will need to use the math you are doing now in real life situations is close to zero. I know, barely passing math has NEVER hurt me in my career choices, learn your multiplication tables %26amp; basic addition %26amp; subtraction %26amp; you should be fine.
Good luck.
Reply:I understand the feeling your are going through. I have a son who is currently in 7th grade and doesn't understand it at all.
I had a meeting with the teachers and his level is a 6grader.
It's very frustrate when I sit with him. I forgot all about Math.
I will suggest to talk to a counselor at the school and explain them how you feel and hope that they could help you out.
I also go to bed crying trying to work with my son.
Best wishes.
Reply:what kind of math??? Im a math teacher... do you want my help? we could email back and forth. i am more than willing to help. Dont cry, its going to be alright.
Reply:SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST NOT LIKE IN MATH I COULD DO IT SORT OF BUT I DONT LIKE MATH...JUST LOOK UP ANSWER ON THE INTERNET KID PASS WITH A C...ON YA MATH CLAASES AND GET ALL A;S IN THE OTHER ONES...MAKES THAT C NOT LOOK SO BAD.
DONT CRY OVER MATH....
Reply:I was terrible in math.
Don't be so hard on yourself.
I have realized that math is all about organizing.
Once I realized that it got easier.
Don't let this get you down you are probably good at million other things.
Unless your planning to work at a bank for no pay and crap benefits or be an accountant and have a bit of your soul die everyday then you can be hard on your self about it.
Reply:Have you considered taking a different math class or going to see a guidance counsellor? Maybe you should transfer
Reply:poor thing I hope you feel better talk to someone.
Reply:I really can't help you with the math or your crying. All I can tell you is that this math you're stressing out on is probably never going to come in handy in the real world.
It's also hard to figure how you're only getting 3 out of 100 questions correct. Maybe it's time to find a new tutor or go to someone above your teacher, like maybe a guidance counselor. You need to pass in order to graduate, so it's of utmost importance that you learn how to do this right.
I really feel for you friend. I hated math in high school too. All I can say is try not to cry and ask a student, the best in your class, for some help.
Good luck. No more tears friend!
Reply:hun, don't let it get you down! I was HORRIBLE HORRIBLE at math in middle school and high school, then when I got to college, it just started to "click." But I know, how does that help you now, right? Your teacher is being a jerk! I think a big reason you don't get math is because you're anxious and nervous and you have a mental block because you don't like feeling pressured. first, take it easy. don't let yourself get so nervous. second, talk to your principal. make you parents come with you. tell the principal that you are trying but that it's just not making sense. The principal will talk with the teacher and the teacher will have to cut you some slack. This will help, because then you'll stop feeling so nervous. chin up! good luck!
Reply:That stinks. I know how you feel. I had to go to reading summer school all the time. It really stinks.
Your grade for this term sounds hopeless. I'm so sorry but don't let that stop you from trying. Give everything you do your best and you will turn out OK in the end.
Even with bad grades you can still learn from the class. It will come eventually.
I got two F's in College in the subject that eventually became what I do for a living.
Keep at it and good luck. Just remember to do your best.
Reply:get a psychologist. maybe you have a disorder or something.
