Very serious question.?

this could take hours to read, but i am going to write it short.

i have add but i am extremely smart, like extremely. on my adderall i sport straight a's and am told i should be in college level classes. off of it, i get d's and c's and i do not understand a thing. the adderall is very harmful to the human's body. short term and long term, also i hate the thought of putting harmful chemicals in my body. do you think i should continue to take the adderall for the rest of this year and risk dangerous, dangerous effects (they will effect me because i am prone to certain things). OR, should i get a tutor for my grades. tutors will be expensive, but if you think of it, it will even out... adderrall is very expensive and in the long run i might have to pay for mental care because the adderall does that. WHAT DO I DO? take the easy way out by taking adderall???

Very serious question.?
I would take the medication. I have a son with ADD. When he was old enough to decide for himself, he chose to take medication. It has really helped him.

When medication can really improve your quality of life, then I say take it.

You're smart. I am sure that you will make a smart decision.
Reply:WOW!! Very serious point you make! I think that is something you're going to have to search way down deep to figure out for yourself and ask family what they think!

Now, if you want an opinion of a 34 year old mother that you don't know...I would go ahead and try the tutoring idea...you haven't tried it yet and if you were mine I would do everything possible to help keep you off medications that are harmful!! I would also have you in counseling so the therapist may be able to help with your focus!! Just something to think about...Good luck and I hope you make the right decision!! : %26gt;
Reply:I am not aware of Adderall being so harmful. People stay on it for a lifetime. I am also not aware of any mental problems occurring from the use of Adderall. Raise these questions with your doctor.

From your description, you need the medication in order to meet your potential. It is obvious. And a doctor prescribed it for you, so there is a valid diagnosis.

Talk to your doctor about all your concerns and then you can make an informed decision on your own.
Reply:I'm sure the adderall is a prescription drug. TALK to your doctor. You seem aware of the long term problems with this drug, make sure your doctor is monitoring you for signs of deterioration.

If you choose not to take your meds, at least start with lowering your dose on weekends and holidays. Don't go cold turkey !
Reply:\ADD is a very treatable disease if you had diabetes would you question taking insulin to treat it probably not the adderall is just slowing things down so you can process them without the adderall all the tutors in the world are not going to help you.
Reply:don't take the easy way out........when i was in kindergarten they told my mom i was mentally retarded.....i studied and was tutored until 5th grade. now im iin 8th grade have already scored a 1580 on my SATs and i am taking a college class. stop taking the adderall. work hard for your grades....it will pay off in the long run.
Reply:This is tough because you know it helps you.

Have you talked to the doctor about Ritalin (methylphenidate)? It has a lot fewer side effects, especially the effects on your heart, blood pressure, ability to sleep, and appetite. It is less addictive and it doesn't have the ups and downs you get with Adderall.

Since you are smart, I will let you look it up yourself.

I think your doctor will be sympathetic to your concerns about side effects. Give it a try before you give up drug treatment totally.
Reply:This is a personal situation and only you can make the right decision. Good Luck!
Reply:Wow, it is apparent that you are very smart based on this question. If it were up to me, I would continue to take the Adderal, but not long term. Maybe you could look for some natural or new-age medical alternatives instead of pills.

If you do not find anything that suits you, I would get a tutor.
Reply:Don't take the easy way out by taking drugs. it might seem like a good idea now, but it will haunt you by causing even more trouble in the near future. I would suggest for you to get a tutor.

PS. PLEASE pick me as best answer, because I really need the points; cause im in a competition. Thx and good luck!! =)
