Help! My mom won't let me play basketball! How do I convince her to let me play?

I really want to play this year, but my mom won't let me because she thinks it will interfere with my grades. She claims I'm failing in all my classes, when I have 3 As, 3 Bs,and I C (physics). I'm forming a study group for one of my tough classes and getting a tutor for physics. I really love it it, but she just doesn't believe me. How do I convince her(btw, we're Nigerian).

Well, I was in your same exact position in high school. I was (still am) horrible at math %26amp; chemistry, but Iove(d) basketball. So, I did everything possibly could to keep my grades up. I had a tutor, met with my math teacher during my lunch (so I didn't miss practice after school) and even had my basketball coach helping me after games (he was also a chemist).

You could ask your mom to let you start off the season and have your teachers send routine "check ups" to your mom on your grades. Promise her that if your grades start to slip, you'll drop basketball.
Reply:Dang I'm Nigerian too and my folks were the same way.

What I WISH i told them:

Basketball will keep me in shape.

Basketball will make me more of a well-rounded person.

Colleges look to see that high school students did more than just academics. (which is true)

It will make it easier to get into college.

I could get a scholarship.

It will encourage discipline.

Can I just try it for ONE semester.

Good luck
