all my life i have never been good at math. my dad is great at it but i am horrible. its like a foreign language to me. i've been going to my math tutor since 6th grade and i am now in 11th. math this year has been a lot worse tho. i make 2s, 3s, and even a 1 once on a quizes that are worth 100 pts. I made a 3/100 on my last test. my teacher is no help. i've asked her to go over a hmwk prblm i didnt get and she gave me a 0 for not "completing my assignment." i have a 30 in the class now and every day when i walk in the classroom, i want to cry. my math tutor told me i dont deserve to go thro what i'm going thro. i cry every night when i get home b/c its so bad. you dont know what it's like to go in and know that its utterly hopeless. i'll have to go to summer school and i hate that. also, i can't drop the class.
do have any suggestions on how to at least survive the class without having a breakdown?
I'm In Desperate Need of HELP I'm About to Hit My Breaking Point!!!!!?
I too suck at math. Funny I was supervisor of a accounting dept for a trucking comp. I am going back to school for Teaching degree and CANNOT do algebra. It blows my mind. I have a hard time learning something when I know I wont use it in the future. I am wanting to teach K no algebra needed. Do you have a friend who can do her work with you. I know I tried to be tutored also didnt work.
Reply:i've struggled with math my whole life....here's a hint, you never use it a day after you graduate ..so suck it up.
i failed gr10 math (3 TIMES))...eventually they will just pass you out of sympathy if it's that bad...=]
Reply:you go to your school counselor.
Reply:i hate math to i suck at it (and tha tteacher of ure seems like a real *****) but he's rigth math is usless in the real world
Reply:Do you need the math to get into college? Is your tutor impatient with you? Perhaps you could get a different tutor, or have a friend whose good in math work with you. It's a big sacrifice to become ill over a math course, but you say you can't drop it. I hope you will find a solution that will bring you some peace inside, because you're over the edge now! Good luck to you!
Reply:First, take a big breath.
Then calmly go through every lesson in your math book and try to find out what's giving you the most trouble.
Don't try to learn it, but just pin-point the problem areas.
Then, SLOWLY, go over the little lessons one by one. Trying to do every single practice problem in the book. Even the ones that you already did.
Don't try to do all of it at once. It won't help and you're just going to become frustrated with yourself.
And when you do become frustrated, then take a break for about 10 mins. and come back to it.
For the class,
Sit in the front of the class and don't let your friends bother you.
The day before a lesson, go over it at home so you can come into class with questions.
HOpe this helped.
Reply:I'm so sorry you're going through this! I am also in 11th grade and I just got done w/ Algebra so I know how you feel! It can be really difficult sometimes. But don't worry, everyone has different strengths and weaknesses! Maybe you can sit your dad and math tutor down together and tell them how you feel, and they can help. Whenever your tutor is helping you, maybe your dad can also be there to clarify things. I'm sorry about your teacher not understanding, but what I did in class was I took different notes then what the teacher told us to write down and changed them so I could understand them better. Maybe that can work for you too. And also, anytime you have a question you can always email me! I just finished Algebra II so I still remember everything and may be able to help with any questions you have. I hope this helps and I hope everything works out for you! Feel better =)
Reply:Okay, just want to first say you are not the only one that does not understand math, I suck at it!!! and I was in the same boat you were but i eventually made it into college. So it is not hopeless. If you can convince a doctor to give you a note that says something along the lines of "(your name) cant complete math class because of medical issuses" And because of the Hippa law if the teacher asks what medical issues you are having you dont have to tell them it is because of math. When you give them the note ask if you can incomplete the class and retake it to replace your grade
