Can someone please help me i need help finding the quadratic fromula for math...for example xsquared-2x-5=0?

I'm in this online school thing n it has this cognitive tutor thing for math and i have to find the quadratic formula for it and i have a=1 b= -2 and c= -5 is that right? I really need help with this b/c i'm really late on it if anyone wants to give me their aol/aim or yahoo so that i can ask them more questions fell free to....

Can someone please help me i need help finding the quadratic fromula for math...for example xsquared-2x-5=0?
use discriminant method..........

-b(+-) squqre root of b^2-4ac/2a where a=1 b=-2 and c=-5
Reply:Try this site. I thought it was interesting and may be just what you need. Meassage me and let me know.

Reply:a = 1, b = -2, and c = 5

the quadratic formula is http://media.nasaexplores.com/lessons/01...

plug the numbers in for a, b, and c.

good luck!
Reply:I'm a little confused. X-squared - 2x - 5 IS a quadratic formula.

E-mail me thru here if you want any help with algebra (I don't want to post my info for everybody to see it)
Reply:i can do for you sara
Reply:x^2-2x-5=0

x=(-b±SQRT(b^2-4ac))/2a

a=1, b=-2, c=-5

x=(-(-2)±SQRT((-2)^2-4(1)(-5)))/2(1)

x=1±SQRT(6)
Reply:x^2 - 2x - 5 = 0

you cannot factorise this equation

must use the formula:

x= [-b +-(plus minus) the squareroot of(b^2 - 4ac) ] / 2a

ans: x=3.449 or -1.449
Reply:x equals (negative b plus or minus the sqaure root of (b sqaured minus 4*a*c)) ALL over 2a
Reply:The formula is below. Good luck!
Reply:x= -b +/- the square root b squared minus 4ac/2a rehi3@yahoo.com
Reply:The question is to find the values of x for this equation.The values of x for the quadratic equation ax^2+bx+c is

x=-b+sq rt(b^2-4ac)/2a

%26amp;

x=-b-sqrt(b^2-4ac)/2a

here a=1,b=-2,c=-5

so by putting values we get

x=1+sqrt(6)

x=1-sqrt(6)

hope u got it.

Reply:D=b2-4ac

=4-4(-5)

=4+20

=24

and then use x is -b plus minus root of D (24) that is 2 into root of 6
Reply:You have your factors correct.

a= 1, b= -2 %26amp; c= -5

The formual is x equals -b plus or minus the squar root of b squared - 4(a)(c) all over 2(a).

The solution is +3.5 or -1.5

Try and work it out and see if you come up with the same answer.
Reply:your a,b,c is right

x= 2 +/- sqrt(-2^2+20)/2

X= 2+/- sqrt(24)/2

x= 2+/- 2 rt(6)/2

x= 1+/- sqrt(6)
